Patrick’s best friend, Josh, offered to take Patrick home to spend the summer.

Patrick had been warned that there probably wouldn’t be a lot of hot young men around for the picking, but Josh never prepared him for Dakota.

I write not only for my own pleasure, but for the pleasure of my readers. I can’t remember a time in my life when I haven’t written and told stories. When I’m not writing, I’m dreaming about writing, doing something wild and adventurous, or trying to make the world a better and more open minded place to live in. I adore beautiful men, and I know I’m not alone in this! Eroticism between consenting adults, in all its many forms is the icing on the cake of life!

Implausible, over the top, melodramatic, and trite. Promising premise for sure, but ultimately just disappointing.

I’m not typically a negative nelly, but suffice it to say, there’s way better out there in terms of plot development, sex scenes, and writing in general.

I loved this book about a young man who falls in love with his best friend's father - who happens to be a very hot cowboy! This isn't really an easy topic, but D.J. handles it with sensitivity and makes it an even more interesting story by adding a few more obstacles for the two characters to overcome.

Patrick is a student and falls for his best friend Josh's dad almost as soon as they meet. Patrick and Josh stay at Dakota's ranch during their summer holiday while earning some money working at Dakota's sister's restaurant. Patric and Dakota get along well and Patrick quickly believes his interest is returned, at least on some level. But there is a major obstacle to overcome: Dakota's past still haunts him and means he is more than usually hesitant about starting a relationship with a younger man.

The developing emotions and relationship are tender and touching and held me glued to the pages from the start. A definite must read!

**4.5 upped to a 5**

First of all, I love the name Dakota and the Dakota in this book stole my heart right away. Second, I love gay cowboys. Third, I love this April-December romance, and fourth, OMG Dakota is one hot man.

This was a sweet first love story - yeah, to me it was first love at least on Patrick's part, and he fell in first love with the most wonderful man. Obviously it would have been an awkward relationship at first and I totally get how Dakota tried to avoid Patrick and his overwhelming feelings of lust and love - it played out pretty realistic in my eyes; heartbreaking and frustrating at times but definitely real to life. I wouldn't expect a man to want to fall into a relationship with his son's best friend, so I applaud Dakota's strength and will power as well as Patrick's determination and stalking skills. :) I also respect Josh's attitude to the relationship, at least once he let go of the anger he held towards his father in the first place. Have to say I really liked Aunt Kate, too, she was a wonderful character and support system for all of her men and I don't usually say that about female characters.

Like I said, a very sweet story with a lovely HEA ending - Dakota and Patrick are adorable together.

A little more than 3 stars. Not one of my favorite Manlys but still readable. Very uncomplicated - 22 year old Patrick falls for his best friend's Dad when they visit during the summer vacation. Dakota is just as smitten but there are reasons holding him back. These get resolved really easily. End of story.

I loved everything about this book: the age difference, falling in love with your friend's father, the cowboy thing, some dark past/history and sweet HEA :) I thoroughly enjoyed the story!

I loved the idea of this, but unfortunately the execution left a lot to be desired. Immature characters, rushed sex scenes, and very little of the meaningful conflict and tension I look for in a May-December romance.

I really wanted to love this book. The premise was exactly what I was looking for when the sudden urge for a good May/December relationship hit. Patrick is a 21 year old gay college student who goes home to Wyoming with his straight best friend, Josh. Unfortunately his perfect summer is complicated when he starts developing feelings for Josh's hot cowboy father, Dakota. It sounds like a recipe for delicious tension and attempts at restraint and then drama when Josh finds out.

That is not what happened.

Firstly, most of the drama comes from an event in Dakota's past that has left him with commitment issues. I won't go into detail but I will say that this issue is like the rest of the book, a good premise hurriedly and poorly executed giving it an almost contrived feel. It also threw me how quickly this was tied up after so long, like the situation was just waiting for someone like Patrick to fix it.

Secondly, Patrick is meant to be fighting against Dakota's perception of him as a child but he spends most of the book behaving like a thirteen year old girl (no offense is meant to 13 year old girls, I was one once and I remember what it was like vividly). I honestly don't know what Dakota saw in him.

Thirdly, Dakota is very hot. He is. Honest. I didn't have a problem with this. What I didn't understand was how he could bounce so quickly between pushing Patrick away and engaging in some fairly kinky sex. Some of the dialogue during sex made me cringe but I am overly sensitive when it comes to that sort of thing so it probably wouldn't bother most people. Overall the sex was as hot as Dakota but I preferred the later scenes. FYI - Dakota has amazing stamina for a man his age!

There were a few editing issues such as missing letters and words but not as many as a book I downloaded from Waterstones recently and not especially irritating.

Overall, the main issue (other than Patrick's attitude) that I had with this book was that it felt so rushed. The author can write and I did feel engaged with the characters and the story but I wanted this too be more in depth. I never really saw why Dakota and Patrick fell in love, other than Dakota being a hot cowboy and Patrick having a thing for hot cowboys. Also, the environment the book is set in could have been such a big part of the story but again it is glossed over.

I was disappointed with this story and have debated whether to give it 2 or 3 stars. In the end I went for 3 because I didn't dislike reading it and it was engaging enough that I was eager to keep reading. I'd like to read something longer by this author to see if the rushed pacing was just due to an enforced length or if it is the author's style.

When Patrick’s best friend Josh offers him the chance to get away from city life, Patrick takes it. The two head to Wyoming, to work for Josh’s aunt and live with Josh’s dad, Dakota. The last thing Patrick expects is for his best friend’s dad to be so gorgeous. Dak is everything Patrick ever dreamed of, and best of all he can sense Dak wants him in return. But Dak isn’t so willing to give into his desires for the much younger Patrick. And even if he does, giving into lust and being willing to be in a relationship are two different things. Patrick has one summer to convince Dak to let go of the past and open his heart for the chance at a love that only comes once in a lifetime.

Not many people can say no to a smooth, sexy cowboy. As I fall among the dreaming masses, Last Call was a delight. It features one delicious cowboy, Dak, who is definitely worth sighing over. It’s easy to see why Patrick fell for him, and I so wanted the likeable young man to break through Dak’s barriers and claim his heart. Dak has his reasons for shying away from love, and not all of them revolve around the fact that Patrick is 1) much younger and 2) his son’s best friend (though those are obstacles in and of themselves). The road to happily ever after isn’t smooth for Patrick and Dak, but the end is well worth the bumps Last Call’s heroes face along the way.

Last Call is classic D.J. Manly, so it’s safe to say old fans and new of this author will enjoy it. There were a few scenes that strained credulity, even for someone like me who is willing to suspend disbelief for a story. Still, I found Patrick and Dak’s romance to be an entertaining story overall.

I've read from some author that if you have to give a low rating at least give the reason why so here it goes!

WATCH OUT for SPOILERS!

idk, this book hit all the wrong buttons for me while I'm reading but I I agree in one of the reviews, I also "like the idea of the story but unfortunately the execution left a lot to be desired".(nodding)
I didn't feel the love at first sight thingy or any sexual tension they might have nor the intense love Patrick have for Dak. I didn't like the way Patrick meddled in Dak's problem though it turns out it was a heroic act!? hmmm :/ ...it was annoying how things happened like after spending A DAY with Dakota with nothing much happened, Patrick felt like he was so heartbroken already after Dakota cut him off with "Patrick don't... " then Dakota avoided him and AGAIN nothing much happened but Patrick fell in love more WTH! he's falling in love with nothing much happening with the story, it was annoying! and after that they had sex and there we go Patrick was completely hook and irrevocably in love. WOW! 〜( ̄▽ ̄〜)
Then there was JOsh who was so oblivious of what's happening around him! I mean come on Josh! You're Patrick's best friend and you didn't even notice Patrick acting strange or something, they never acted the best friend! ugh! and Dakota just..he just didn't stand out so much but maybe comparing to other characters he's ok. ⊙︿⊙

I love books that have the older man/younger man or older woman/younger man, etc. Normally. While I loved Dak, I had a hard time with Patrick. The author made him seem like such an immature child. I can't quite picture why anyone (Dak) would want to be with someone who acted so childish. If he didn't get what he wanted or the reaction that he wanted he stomped off like a pouting child or one who was about to have a tantrum.

I really like the story and I have become a big fan of the author's books but this one didn't really do much for me. The secondary characters (Josh, Kate) were written very well. The conflict (scandal) was handled quickly. It didn't drag on the entire book and was resolved (semi) nicely. The romance was okay but I had a hard time really accepting it because of Patrick's behavior. Adding the puppy was a nice touch.

I'm not sure what to say. It was ok book, no surprises, simple story, simple language. I just didn't feel anything while reading, no conections between characters. They were separate people and not very well developed at the top of that. I couldn't care much about what was happening to them.
I kind of liked Dakota. Patrick on the other hand was uneven if I can say that about a person. He was behaving mature just to turn into a kid throwing a tantrum the next second. As for his friend... was he supposed to be an elementary school student? I understand he was supposed to be a contrast to Peter's so called maturity, but he was exagerated. At least in my opinion.

I. FREAKING. LOVE. books with characters who are much older and happens to be the father of someone the other character knows...I don't think ill EVER get tired of that Plot.
This particular story was about Patrick the younger one and Dakota the Older one. Dak is a super hot and buff cowboy while Patrick is a slimmer shorter city boy...who happens to be everything Dak's lonely little sexually repressed heart wanted!
Had a fair amount of angst..it could have done with just a smidge less but really id say the story was written very well. Easy to read but very enjoyable :-)...oh and super hot too ;-)

Wow - surprising premise for the 'dark past' spoken of, although resolution was a little quicker than expected for that particular issue. The tension between heroes is thick, and the love scenes hot. Very enjoyable!

It was very funny and sweet, I loved Dak and Patrick. I am so glad Josh and Kate were supportive and that William fixed the thing he did to Dak. I love cowboy romances and this was definitely a good one :)

Oh I love me some sexy as sin gay cowboys! Dakota was so hot and the type of teacher I wish I'd have had. Patrick was a really great younger character who fell in love with Dakota. The sex was incredibly hot. I wish the story were longer and maybe not so rushed.
