This was very interesting, even fascinating, but it was also one of the most confusing books I've ever read. I had a terrible time keeping track of the characters, the locations, the fors and againsts, let alone the historical context. I definitely appreciated the main character - the agent, and some of the others, but some of the leading characters were absolutely terrible people. It definitely gave an interesting impression of the that period in history. Can't believe I've had it around as long as I did, and had never read it before!
I found this book to be adventurous, romantic, and thought-provoking but I had to push myself to finish it because it seemed to drag sometimes. There were quite a few characters and I found that hard to keep up with at first but the second part of the book wasn't nearly as difficult. Since I don't know much about the time period it was set in I had a hard time understanding some of it, but the story in general was interesting.
