While I was very interested in all the details of the social structure and practices of the village the author studied, I was often distracted by the author's choice to include personal opinions of the villagers he studied. I guess that's just something that forms when you do ethnographic work for long periods of time, but did he really need to call one man dim-witted and another man's daughter ugly? Other than these sort of jarring comments, I very much enjoyed reading the book.
