A novel describing the changes that came to India during the last years of the Raj, through three generations of a single family in northern India. The author has written several books under the pseudonym "Philip Woodruff", including "The Men Who Ruled India".
Wonderful book with a very realistic plot that shows some less than savoury aspects of the Indian freedom struggle as well as other shortcomings of society that unfortunately persist to the present day. The depictions of the Garhwal Himalayas are breath-takingly lyrical.
