A former actor, theatre-director and drama teacher, Deary says he began writing when he was 29. Most famously, he is one of the authors of the Horrible Histories series of books popular among children for their disgusting details, gory information and humorous pictures and among adults for getting children interested in history. Books in the series have been widely translated into other languages and imitated.
A cartoon series has been made of the series of books and was shown on CiTV for a period in 2002.
The first series of a live-action comedy sketch show of the same name was shown on CBBC in 2009 and a second series is due.
Terry is also known widely throughout children and adult reading groups alike for his True Stories series (see below for series list).
He received an Honorary Doctorate of Education from the University of Sunderland in 2000. His numerous accolades also include the Blue Peter "Best Nonfiction Author of the Century" Award in the U.K.
No ako ten slovenský preklad je na zaplakanie, ale chápem, že tie kúzla a verše sú prispôsobené pre deti. Každopádne veľmi pekná knižka, chápem prečo knihy z tejto edície bavia väčšinu detí.
I decided to read this book as Horrible Histories are always entertaining.
This book goes under ' a book that teaches me about another time in history.' This category was very quite interesting as it tells us about theories in the past which are quite weird compared to todays theories.
My favourite quote from the book is ' Yes, people actually believed in witches.' I liked this quote as it is completely the opposite of what i think. Now i find all those ancient theories quite funny.
Something i learnt from this book was that people actually WORSHIPED witches. All those cauldrons and witches hats are claimed to be true. Thats what the worshipers said at least.
I didnt really have a favourite character as the book was about witches in general and not about particular witches.
Yes, I read Horrible histories. I read this book when I was 8 years old.
I find this book interesting. Humorous and teaching you stuff about how some people falsely accused people of being witches, and I loved it. Bad points was that it had a bit to much humor, but overall, I give this book a 4 star rating. And yes, again, I read it when I was 8 years old. If you have a problem, let me know. I'll explain why I began reading horrible science when I was 7.
Horrible Histories is a series of illustrated books published in the UK by Scholastic. They are designed to get children interested in history by concentrating on the trivial, unusual, gory, or unpleasant. They are exceptionally well loved by my history loving children
This book is a great book to read before bedtime. I like how the author introduces many information about witches in such detail with so many pictures. You will definitely love this book.
This book was about witches from history. It had their deaths and what they did too. I thought it was quite gory because they put weird stuff in potion and their deaths were horrible. By Louis
