I enjoyed this book mainly because of my SD family. My maternal great grandparents were born just 10 years prior to the Massacre at Wounded Knee. Isadore Irene DuBois was born in 1881 in Estelline, Dakota Territory and lived in a Soddy. Edward James Converse was born 1879 in Alton,IL, but eventually moved to Dakota. Grandpa owned a full & colorful Indian headdress. He would take it to schools to show the children. It finally was falling apart and had to be destroyed.

A literary western covering the events leading up to the Wounded Knee Massacre in 1890.

Not for everyone. Lott builds his story in a leisurely pace concentrating on character development in his Sioux and the whites who worked the reservation.
