It’s very hard to give a numerical rating for a book like this…..

Last week we had to put our first dog to sleep after a battle with cancer. He had been with us since we bought and moved into our house over 10 years ago. He saw us get married, watched us each grieve over losing a parent and was with us for every adventure we took in the US. It was one of the hardest days of our lives watching his heart stop beating.

I have an amazing support group who are fierce animal lovers, and have unfortunately been through this experience quite a few times. One of them sent me this book. When I opened the package the title alone brought me to tears- so I could not imagine reading it. The first chapter where Linda describes the “worst dog ever” had me sobbing as many of the things she had experienced with Galo, we had also gone through with our furbaby. As I read through the subsequent chapters, I found some solace in knowing that I wasn’t alone in how I felt grieving for my dog and that over time, even though it would still hurt, it would get better.

Pet loss is not always talked about, especially since you’re not supposed to like animals more than people. And while I am no where near healed, this book did give some comfort in knowing that I am not alone and that all of feelings are valid.
