A great lover of animals, after losing her furry life companions, she suffered a tough grieving process that led her to take her life in another direction. Her second book “Cuando ya no estás”, published by the Vergara publishing house, reached its fourth edition a few months after its launch; it is a practical guide to face the mourning for the animals with which we live.
As a result of her success, Laura took great advantage of her personal experience to find her life to help others grieve the loss of their animals. I lost my first and only dog two months ago, Dec 2024, and am really struggling without him. He was with me through so much. He never judged me, never got mad at me, was always there. He helped me through many dark days and tough times, as well as happy ones. I had him from 6.5 weeks old, until 10.5 years old and he passed very unexpectedly. I was not prepared and definitely not ready, thinking I still had at least 2 more years with him. I am so heartbroken and it feels like I’ll never recover. This book did have some good points and addressed several things that I’m feeling and going through. I think it was helpful in that it made me realize that I’m not the only one that is going through this. What I’m feeling is normal and everyone grieves differently. Although you can tell it was written in a language other than English and has been translated, I do recommend this to anyone out there who is going through the loss of a pet. ❤️‍🩹

Wait for Me in the Rainbow is a short, gentle, and genuinely helpful book for anyone grieving the loss of a beloved pet — and, as I learned, for anyone grieving deeply at all.

The author walks the reader through grief with compassion and clarity, including a clear explanation of the five stages of grief, which I found especially grounding. The quotes throughout the book are thoughtful and comforting, and several stayed with me long after I finished reading.

One of the book’s greatest strengths is its emphasis on not replacing a lost pet. It gently reinforces that each animal we love is unique and irreplaceable — Bella, Cocoa Puff, and others will always have their own place in my heart. At the same time, the book affirms that love is not finite, and that there can be room, when the time is right, to welcome another furry companion without betrayal.

Chapter 10’s telling of the Legend of the Rainbow Bridge is especially tender and consoling. It doesn’t erase the pain of loss, but it offers a sweet image of hope and reunion that many readers will find meaningful.

This is not a long book, but it is a wise one. I found it exactly when I needed it most, and I’m grateful for it. Why? My sweet Bella died just yesterday, Dec 28, 2025.

This was a tough one for me! Couldn’t even post that I had started this because I wasn’t sure I would make it through. Many, many tears as I grieve our “Milo” it did bring comfort in knowing what I was feeling was totally okay! Don’t rush the process of grieving your pet! Let the feeling come as they do!! Thanks Daneen!!

Wonderful book

This book can relate to the lose of a human partner too. And right now I am mourning the recent loss of my husband and I am left behind with 2 older furry babies. at 81 I can say love those in your life human or furry extravagantly. No matter the years they are gone too soon. This book offers good thoughts to help you navigate life with parts of your heart missing

I listened to this on audiobook after losing my Hazel. The voice was soothing and the words offered some comfort. I enjoyed the personal stories about the dogs. It served as a good reminder of some things I knew, encouragement, and also a couple things I hadn't thought of before. I don't really think any book alone could be enough to stop the pain but that's okay. it offered some support and perspective which I value. I also understand its normal and meaningful to feel the way I feel. This book is very simple but I kind of think thats a good thing because if youre reading/listening right after a loss like I was, the brain just isn't functioning super well. I found the simplicity and repetition helped me actually take it in during this time.

This was a good book. It helps readers deal with their grief after losing a loved one (their furry loved ones). As it’s been two years since a VERY traumatic B.E., this book has helped me find inward peace on how my boy is doing now and healing myself in knowing I did the right thing for him. Thank you for writing this book and helping keep our favorite furry children’s memories alive.

Parts of this book were really sweet and touching, and it could be comforting for someone grieving the loss of a pet. However, other sections felt repetitive, and I think if I had read this right after losing a dog, it might have made me feel guilty for not having given them a “perfect” life, as the author appears to have done with her own dogs.

A short read on grief after saying good bye to your beloved pet. I felt the author basically repeated herself in each chapter, but the book does have simple words and funny stories about pets.

Translation was pretty bad. Some good moments and pointers, but felt it could’ve delivered a lot more. Still grateful for the read in such an upsetting time.

"Grief is the price we pay for love"

Normally i dislike too many personal antidotes, but the author's late dog, Galo, was such a character that it adds a lot to the book.

"It came to me that every time lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog that comes into my life, gifts me with a piece of their heart. If i live long enough, all the componets of my heart will be dog, and i will become as generous and loving as they are."

Pretty common sense but author reminds us to not judge yourself for how heavily or long you grieve.studies show those who bottle up their feelings only prolong the grieving process

With Pet Loss one often experiences a secondary grief due to lack of understanding and support in society. Not only those who judge you, but also those who offer zero support/condolences because it was a pet.

Appreciate that in the chapter that delves into approaching Pet Loss with your children there is a section giving a breakdown according to your child's age

70% suggested writing practice of clearing your mind for five minites then writing anthing that comes up with zero judgement. Will be trying soon.

While author does state to be fully completed in your Grieving Processbefore adopting another pet she is against the mentality of never having another pet due to the pain. She frequently rescues animals and encourages one to make decisions based on love not fear

This was the worst translation I have ever read and has left me much more appreciative of the translations I’d previously read. The book is a cute idea, and I can’t comment on the original Spanish, but have to admit that the English translation did not move me at all. It also seemed to be very basic - almost a dumbed-down version of what someone might want to hear after a pet passes. If I could redo the past week I’d have tried another of the many pet-loss books that are out there.

This was a cute little read. I recently lost my furry friend to old age and I had never experienced the loss of a pet before. This book helped me out a lot and I would definitely recommend it to someone who is feeling the same way. It was a little difficult to read because I don’t think this was originally written in English so the grammar was slightly off. But very fast and very sweet. It’s comforting to know our furry friends are waiting for us on the other side.

Some good thoughts when one is going through the grieving process and it gives you the permission you may feel that you need to take your time and grieve at your pace. I really liked the part on the rainbow bridge; most animal lovers know the first part where you are reunited with your beloved pets, but what about those who die without a family , in a shelter for example, well the legend continues and that part ( which I hadn’t previously known) was lovely!!

a careful caress of my destroyed heart

Having just lost our perfect baby girl at such a young age to cancer this book was heart wrenching yet encouraging. 4 years is much too short of a life for such a wonderful pup but we know she is now longer suffering and is dancing across the rainbow bridge.

A piece of my healing is owed to this book (of many) I miss my Ivy . My best friend that I ever have had . Losing her was like losing a part of me . Sometimes knowing others have gone through the pain can help with healing , feeling acknowledged, validated , supported , and understood. I recommend this

I loved this book. Reading this book has made me feel that what I’m feeling is not stupid but just shows the love I had for my fur baby. This book made me cry but I did feel that how I’m dealing with my loss is normal. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has lost their best friend & having a hard time getting through it. Thank you Laura for writing this.

It was kind of sweet, and there were some comforting moments in it, but I really expected more from this. Also, the translation was so incredibly terrible that, often, it didn't even make sense. A bit disappointing.

The translation is so horrible. I wish I chose a different book on pet grief.

Maybe the message is good but the translation makes the writing horrible and I can’t finish it.

Do not recommend in English anyways

A wonderful guide through loss. Although it's about losing a pet,the grief process is the same for the loss of a person. I would recommend purchasing this book and revisiting it multiple times as needed.

A very helpful book that reassured me it’s okay to remember and grieve for my lost fur baby. Unfortunately, we live in a society that doesn’t commonly support grievers of animals. It was nice to be reminded that I am not alone in my grief.
