When Cora Grames is abandoned in England at a haunted castle, she feels very sorry for herself…until she sees the sexy man in the mirror that only appears to her. And when she finds out that she can touch him, he suddenly becomes more than a fantasy. But how can she fight for a man that doesn’t exist in her time?

This novella (19k) includes a man that might be a ghost, a neighbor that might be a fairy godmother in disguise, and possibly sex involving a mirror.

A NOTE ABOUT FRIENDING: I will happily friend you back if you friend me! Goodreads is, after all, about discussing books we both love. I will NEVER self-promote my books to you. And if you self-promote your books to me, no matter how nicely, I'm deleting you off my list. Sorry. Goodreads is about fun, not spam.

A NOTE ABOUT MY REVIEWS: Hey, look at that! Most of my reviews are really positive! This is not me kissing ass - It's because at heart, I am a lazy reader. If I'm not enjoying a book, I don't finish it. I don't review anything I didn't finish, ergo, most of the reviews I put up here are pretty much positive across the board because I finished them and was happy with the story. Makes sense, right?

First off I love Jill Myles' work. Okie this has none of the hotness which is known as Zane in it but nonetheless is a really good short story. This was a cute kinda modern fairytale. Cora is house sitting for 3 weeks at her Aunt and Uncle's home/ tourist attraction Abbey in England while they are vacationing in Spain. Her aunt tells her to stay in the small guest room called the "mirror room" which has of course this huge antique mirror in it. While staying her first night in the room Cora has a dream and later wakes up seeing a gorgeous male in the mirror, Freaked she runs out of the room and can't sleep a wink in the deserted and now to believe haunted house. The next morning the old nosey neighbor nextdoor named Muffin pops in to visit and acquire about Cora. She offers her some crappy muffins and some sage advice. She also believes Cora's sighting of the man in the mirror. Determined to find out more about him Cora braves sleeping in the room she was assigned. She becomes upset when he doesn't show but she suddenly hears him singing a song. She discovers that the two can't communicate verbally to each other because they can't hear each other talk. He tries to communicate with her by showing a shield with a crest on it. She also learns she could touch the cold mirror but feel warmth if he touches in the same place as her. When she is startled by his touch at first she freaks out and he disappears. Again, Muffin shows up the next day while Cora is trying to find his crest from the shield in the Abbey gift shop. Muffin again offers her food, sage advice and this time a little background on his family history based on the crest. Cora discovers that his name is Aric de Beauchamp and he is from the period of the Crusades. Cora is determine to communicate and touch Aric as she appears to be dreaming of him and falling for him. The sexual tension in this story is great as is the actual erotic scene between the two. With a little help from Muffin and a whole lot of determination will Cora and Aric live happily ever after.. well read this short story to find out. It is totally worth it. :)

-- A Romantic Book Affairs Review

Rating: C ... Heat: Hot

This novella is short. Very short. Amazon says it is 53 pages. As one might expect with a story so short, there isn’t much (if any at all) character development and the romance is almost instantaneous. I can give it a pass on those two things. I mean, really, if I had a hunky medieval warlord making bedroom eyes at me in my mirror every night, I’d probably lift tail pretty quickly too.

What I didn’t like was Cora’s aunt. She was… ridiculous. First, she allows a niece she’s never met to castle-sit for her. Then, when she comes home early to find said niece has made a bit of a mess in the gift shop, she looses her shit. Screaming and shrieking ensues. She throws her niece out on her ass. Seriously? Her entire character’s presence was unnecessary, annoying, and added nothing to the story (but did take a lot away).

Could’ve used less crazy aunt tirades, more mirror make-out scenes. The highlight of this tale is any and every scene that involved Cora, Arik, and the mirror. It was a magical combination that I really enjoyed.

I enjoyed the concept of this, but it moved way too fast, and I really hated Muffin. I know not everyone can write a romance in less than 100 pages as well as Laura Kaye, but I really had trouble believing their relationship. Their second meeting and she strips for him, their third and they have sex. And these meetings are brief, so nothing else really happens besides the stripping and the sex. Plus they cant speak to each other. I think this would have been much improved if they could speak and had a few conversations at least.

As I said, I also hated Muffin, and Muffin is the one thing, beside time travel, that links the books in this series together. She really bothered me and brought the book down IMO. But it was brief and I really enjoyed the concept. I love romance and time travel and this is the lowest rated in the series, so I intend to give the rest of the series a try.

Well, hellooooo, Jill Myles. You certainly know how to make a girl look suggestively at her mirror, don't you? *eyes mirror and waits for sexy shenanigans*

While this is definitely a short story, it's sexy and hot. There's a particularly saucy mirror scene that might possibly be calling for me to re-read it. For reviewing purposes, of course. Because, you know, you can never do too much reading research when you're preparing for a review. Am I right?

Sexy and sweet, this story jumps into the touching and things escalate from there. In an entirely good way, of course.

"I just finished it and thought it was great! And greatly entertaining :) I could relate to the h and was sucked into the book's universe. It was quite short, but I don't know if that's bad when done properly - as it was here!

I didn't think I'd like it this much, but it just didn't seem (as) cheesy as most eroticas do.

Every person has books that light up for no apparent reason. They're average; avg. written, characters, story (or as "normal" as PNR gets) and only just on the right side of good - you know all of this and yet it just does it for you (or in this case: or me)."

by me!

I was too lazy to write a review, when I just wrote a long comment about it ;)

Not sure what possessed me to download this..I think the words "Time Travel" in the title made me think this was something else. My bad for not looking at the cover properly to get a clue. >.> Wasn't impressed by this, tbh. It was short so I guess that sort of explains why there isn't much character development and stuff. I didn't really like the characters either, especially Muffin.

This just isn't my kind of book to read, I suppose.

2.5 Stars - Finished it - take it or leave it (C)

I felt the story was too short to develop meaningful characters and connections. The idea is solid and writing good, but just not a lot of substance. I think I would have enjoyed a longer version of the story to learn more about the characters and see them connect.

I thought this was a really nice story...loved the Mirror.
Muffin is Awesome....Every girl could use a Fairy godmother like her (just as long as she's not baking....LOL).
I'm so glad cora fought for Aric, because after that mirror scene I don't think I would even be able to get the man out of man head!!!!

Hm...Not much to this story. Incredibly rushed, over the top and predictable. However, this time the hero left his home for the heroine instead. A little more fulfilling than the usual crap but not nearly enough. Way too short.

**MINOR SPOILERS**
This novella, Mirrorlight, is part of a Once Upon A Time Travel series but can be read as a standalone.
I do not recommend it.
The book had potential but did not fulfill it. The story is about a woman who is spending 3 weeks house sitting a castle. While she is there, she meets a man in a mirror who lived a long time ago.
He is only able to appear in the mirror when she feels strong emotions, which frankly, I did not think made much sense. To get him to appear in one instance, she masturbates. When he does appear, they are able to have sex with the mirror partly between them. I did not think this makes much sense either.
They are not able to talk to each other, but, somehow, they fall in love. In his day, I assume that he is able to freely roam so why would he spend time with the mirror?
One of the secondary characters turns out to be a fairy godmother, but she is a bit of a mess. The fairy godmother tells the main character, Cora, that she never fought for anything in her life. It is a true and makes her seem like a bit of a loser to be honest. Either that or a bit lazy.
There is no relationship development. There is only the one sex scene.
The novella was disappointing.

The mirror sex scene actually made me blush. I don’t even know why, the only thing not ‘normal’ about it was the mirror. I enjoyed this one, I don’t like muffin in any of these, it always sounds too corny when she explains stuff and how she’s a fairy god mother etc and brings the story down a little but other than that it was fun

5/5 stars!

This is so sweet! It made me cry and I just enjoyed reading Cora and Aric's story a lot. It has the right amount of angst and steam, and I just loved this for that. That mirror sex scene was so spicy as well like this book really deserve the 5 stars just for that alone. 🥵

Just ok. Had potential but didn’t really live up to it. The girl was just a bit too whiny. In love? Not at all. They couldn’t even speak to each other. Annoying that the heroine can accept a magic mirror but balks at the idea of a fairy godmother.

This was a very cute novella about a woman learning to fight for the things she loves instead of coasting through life and expecting things to come for her. It's sort of like an erotic fairy tale, though it's not really all that erotic. There's only one sex scene, sure, it involves a mirror (I'm not even getting into that), but it doesn't really deserve an adult content warning or anything.

Cora Grames is a 27-year-old woman who just got lost her job and her boyfriend. Her mother thinks that she's in a sort of depression, and managed to convince Cora's aunt to get her a job house/castle-sitting. Feeling sorry for herself and very lonely, she goes to England and castle-sits; she finds she actually loves the castle, and decides it wouldn't be too hard to stay here for three weeks away from her boring home in the U.S. Her aunt has assigned the mirror room to her, and so there she stays. She wakes up in the middle of the night tough believing that she saw a ghost in the mirror. She's still freaking out when the next-door-neighbor, Muffin, decides to pay a visit, with some decidedly not-so-yummy food items. Cora discovers that apparently she isn't the first person to see a gorgeous man in the mirror.

After some research and stories from Muffin, Cora learns that the man in the mirror is anything but a ghost. He was the heir of the castle a long time ago, and supposedly committed suicide after finding out that his fiancée left him and become the voluntary whore of the King. Still, after seeing the sadness in the man's gaze in the mirror, Cora just can't believe that such a strong-hearted man would do such a thing. She finds herself looking for him in the mirror more and more, sad and lonely whenever he doesn't appear.

After a few more visits from the man, Cora learns that she can touch him and do all kinds of things to him, as can he. Though they can't completely cross through the mirror, several parts of them can.Yet when the anniversary of his suicide is coming up, and Muffin tells Cora that she can never see him after since he will have died, Cora has to decide whether she will fight for the man she loves, or accept her lonely fate.

Though it's kind of obvious that some people in this book - I'm thinking about one specific crazy person here - were never what they said they were, and it was kind of annoying how Cora never questioned anything, this was actually a pretty good novella. I had expected more of it though, and it probably would have been better as a full-length novel. The basic plot is interesting, but as a person who enjoys details, Mirrorlight was kind of plain. My only warning is that if you're looking at this book expecting erotica, you can turn yourself around and look for another book. On the other hand, cute romantics, you've come to the right place.

There's haunted castles, a hunk of a man stuck in a mirror (naughty, naughty things done through said mirror) and enjoyable characters finding their way to each other against all odds. Really, how could you resist that?

The storyline was pretty fun. Cora's been going through a rough patch and gets roped into castle-sitting for a family member (oh my god how fabulous would that be?!). I mean, other than having the ever living tar scared out of her the first night when a man shows up in her bedroom mirror! Of course her interest is sparked and with the help of a very quirky neighbor Muffin (who does things like making chicken soup with actual fried chicken pieces) she sets out to find out how this beautiful man wound up in a mirror to begin with.
Cora put her spoon down in her bowl and smiled. "You're humoring me, aren't you? I probably just imagined the whole thing."

The old woman's eyes were shred as they watched Cora. "What do you have to lose, girl?"

"My mind?"

"That's cute," Muffin said. "You think you still have it."

She had a point.

So the kinda neat/different thing about this one was that the hero never actually talks until the last couple of pages but it still all manages to really work. I loved the odd relationship between Cora and Aric and oh. my. things get really hot and creative between the two. You know, since he's stuck in a mirror and all. I'm a huge fan of creative sex scenes so this one really worked for me I loved the reason he wound up stuck in there as well. It's one of those catch your breath, tear up and squeeze your heart kinda things.

All in all, Mirrorlight was an excellent mix of humor, sweetness and a little mystery from centuries past that combines for a wonderful read that will keep me coming back for more from Myles. It's a free read at the moment on both Amazon and B&N and one I'd definitely recommend to all romance readers and fans of light time travel stories :)

First off let me say if I had a mirror like this I would never leave my house. With that being said, Mirrorlight by Jill Myles is a cute modern fairy tale-esque story about a young woman who has coasted in life and a young man who’s choices in life left him trapped in time. Can Cora gather the courage to free her fantasy man? Or will she once again let life and love pass her by?

Cora Grames seems to have just given up on life. No job and no boyfriend has landed her house sitting a “haunted” castle in England for her aunt. A job her mother got for her. As Cora explores the castle she can’t help but feel as though something is watching her. When she finally falls asleep she dreams of a mysterious man, only to awake and see him in the mirror that faces her bed. Convinced the castle is really haunted, she is visited by the neighbor-Muffins-who not only believes she saw someone in the mirror but tries to help her figure out who it is.

Every night Cora’s mystery man comes to her, revealing a little more of himself each time. As Cora becomes more infatuated with him, she does some investigating and finds out he is none other then Aric de Beauchamp; an original owner from the middle ages.

Determined to do more then just dream of Aric, Cora starts a campaign of pure seduction and will power to bring her fantasy to life.

A cute erotic story that made me laugh out loud and pant a bit. FasSmashwordst pacing with a easy plot. Heavy sexual tension blends well into the storyline as we watch our protagonists tease, seduce, and discover each other. The outlandish Muffin was my favorite character. Her chicken noodle soup killed me. She was also the most fleshed out. While I enjoyed Cora and Aric’s story, I had a hard time connecting with Cora and Aric themselves. Cora comes off as immature and flighty and you really don’t get anything from Aric. He’s as nondescript as the mirror. I would have enjoyed more interaction with Aric.

All in all a light weight erotic story that will have you peeking into every mirror in your house to see what happens.

I read a lot of books by Jill Myles and I always love them! But I had a couple problems with this to-short story it wasn't horrible but not nearly as good as her other books.

Pros
It had a sweet romance with a happy ever after ending (which is what I expected in such a short story) . It also had cool historical aspect and a very original storyline.

Con's
All though the romance is sweet I wish they could have talked to each other you know actually have a conversation and get to know one another (it's obvious they had a cosmic connection)it just was way too quickly from them to see each other through a mirror and then bam having s&x. I know that this story was short but it felt way to rushed in my opinion and was maybe a sign that the book should have been longer then it ended up being.
Additionally at the end of the book you really don't know if the two main characters are right for each other or not. I think I would have liked this short story more if maybe the author added a small epilogue just to see what kind of couple they were together.

Overall it was a good fun read not one of my favorites of Jill Myles stories but I didn't hate it.

If you bought this book from one of the bundle short stories I'd say go for it but if you're buying it separately I would just pass on it.

Yes I would read more books by this author.

3.5 stars - Her life having crumbled around her - she's lost her job, her guy and her home - Cora manages to get a house sitting gig in a castle and becomes enamored with the gorgeous but hauntingly sad but hunky ghost who appears in her bedroom mirror.

On the whole Myles' writing often straddles the edge of my smexiness comfort zone - I tend to prefer steamy to erotic - and the mirror sex scene in which enough of his/her parts are able to cross through a mirror into an alternate time (the whole body can't) also crosses that line from romantic to erotic. (I could have stopped at Cora's attempt to call her 'ghost' to her by ramping-up her emotions and some 'touching' and I would have been fine.) Up until that point, and after that too, I really liked this short story and I liked Cora's transition from fear to obsession for the man in the mirror.

Even with that one bit too much for me, Mirrorlight came out on the 'I like it' side and I enjoyed it enough that I am still tempted to give the others in Myles' Once Upon a Time-Travel series (Shimmerlight, Sunlightand Darklight) a try.

(Mirrorlight was still available as a Kindle freebie when I posted this review for those who don't mind the extra smex.)

This is the first of a couple of short stories and I have to say I loved them!! They weren't like the others with a twist in a fairy tale it was more like a myth or a legend come to life like time travel related artifacts and stuff XD

This book centers around a heroine that no one thinks has much of a future and doesn't trust with a hero she can't even have a conversation with but in a way they connect through a mirror and through time XD

- I liked the idea of two people who though they don't have much in life but in a way found someone to connect to and what more that someone isn't from their timeline

- the background story for the hero was a bit sad and I almost cried near the end but thankfully what I was scared would happen didn't happen

- I liked the ending and what I loved most about this authors endings is that when the hero and heroine are finally together they stick like glue to each other when they think there is the slightest hint of them being separated from each other XD

Overall, *thumbs up*

This novella was free on Amazon. Since I read (and liked) Succubi series by Jill Myles, I thought, why not give a try to this book.

Cora is house-sitting for her aunt, while she is on vacation. Maybe this would be a boring plot if this house is not in fact a 12th century castle in England. You would think that Cora would spend that time exploring, but all she does is battling with visits from quirky neighbor granny without sense of fashion (or cooking) and images of sexy hunk in a mirror in her room.
There is little character development since story is so short, but there was a lot of room for a couple of make-out seanses with a mirror. :p

Wonderfully, erotically sweet tale of love across the centuries. Although, because it is such a short tale, there is not a lot of character development or in depth plot processes. It primarily consists of one setting in which the the hero and heroine converge around, and one major sexually explicit, but very original love scene that encompasses the core of the story. There is definitely a happily everafter. But seriously, you must read this short just for the profound sexual experience if nothing else. I don't think there is anything out there quite like it! A two thumbs up and a new edition to my favorites shelf.

Mirrorlight by Jill Myles

A well written and steamy erotic story that has a bit of magic, time-travel and a quirky lady named Muffin.

Cora is having a rough time in her life, first losing her job and then her boyfriend. She just can’t catch a break. Her mother finagles a house sitting job for a couple of weeks at her aunt’s haunted Abby and there is where she meets the Muffin lady (LOL), a Magic Mirror and a tortured soul. It was all good and when you add a wonderful sexy scene through said mirror…sigh...even better.

I will be looking to continuing this series.

Ok I guess I read the earlier version and it might have changed a bit. But anyway it was a fun, and hot read :)

This was a hot short read. Cora falls for a man in a mirror. One sexy guy and they try to talk to each other, which do not work. So they try to touch. Oh my, now that is one sexy mirror. And Cora tries to find out what happened to her mystery man. Fun and hot are the words for this one.

I love Jill Myles. Her series the Succubus Diaries is one of my favorites so when I came across this novella I had to buy it. I'm so glad I did. Mirrorlight is a modern day fairytale involving a girl that has lost her way, a man who might be a ghost, a crazy old lady and a scene that makes me think that I will never look at a mirror in the same way again. Very creative and very hot. Mirrorlight was a joy to read. 4.5 stars.

This story was OK. I thought parts of it were funny, but unrealistic. Which is stupid because the story has certain magical qualities to it. I just thought the characters were very forward and they got to know each other intimately in a very quick amount of time.

This story was about a girl who fell in love with a man in a mirror. He was from the past and his future was doomed, unless Cora could figure out how to save him.

Surprisingly enjoyable.

Muffin was amusing.

Cora wasn't TSTL.

I didn't like how our hero Aric never got to say anything until the very end, but since it was entirely her POV, it makes sense.

Though there was no explained reason that Cora's aunt returned from vacation early.

I think I would have liked there to have been more to it. You know... an actual story and more pages. (Which means I didn't hate what I read.)

sort of meh. the plot was an excuse for sex. I enjoyed the scarecrow king which was fairly chaste but the other books by her with racier stuff just ain't my cup of tea. The mirror thing could have been interesting if the characters were always so preoccupied by lust. Good book for those who read it for the sex i guess.

Weird as shit and I love it. This book is shorter than I had anticipated, but still meaty enough with memorable characters and an especially memorable setting. The fires! The lust! The mirrors!! The entire story is one that really shouldn't work, but does anyway, and it's stuck with me all week. Three cheers for Jill Myles/Jessica Claire and her inexhaustible imagination.

I really liked it because it was a fairytale... However, you definitely would not read this as a bed time story. This is a fairytale for grownups and a good one to go back to if you need at happy ending with a little steam on the windows!
