A use a 1 star for books so terrible I don’t finish them. This one I finished (two books) and I honestly don’t know why. Maybe because it was a free audio book? I honestly fell asleep for part of it and didn’t miss anything.
I kept thinking it would get better or sexier but it just didn’t. The sex wasn’t hot. The controlling MMC for the purposes of you disagreeing with her choices? No; lame. Alpha male shit; sure; but you don’t get to be controlling because you don’t like someone’s choices.
It wasn’t hot; it wasn’t sweet; it wasn’t anything. Even the narration wasn’t great. I don’t even know why I listened to it.

This book was not as bad as some of the reviews I read made it out to be. I believe when we read book, we either set our bias and beliefs aside or just don’t read books that are contrary to our beliefs. Simple. Right?!

I am glad I decided to give this book a try anyways. I will say, as the story emphasizes over and over again, this is a very taboo topic (Daughter-in-law falls in love with her husband’s father after he passes away), however, I set aside my biases and dived into the story and I was not disappointed. It was emotional and engaging and I found I kept turning the pages just to see how the story would end, even though I already knew it would be a happy ending, it did not seem so for most of the book.

The FMC was a little frustrating for the majority of the book. Given her trauma and heartaches, it is understandable but still she got on my nerves. I love how the pages described her as a mother and employee. The MMC in my opinion, a gentleman even though he has Alpha tendencies, he was not an a**hole.

This book was experienced via audiobook.

Yes!!! My revisit with Holland and Maguire (aka Darlin' & Sarge) did not disappoint! I love this story! Holland is married to Scott.... who is Maguire's son. Scott is in the military and dies in action. Scott writes a not to his dad that should anything happen to him he wants his dad to take Holland in and look after her (her parents suck as well as his mom). So their story starts with them driving all the way across the country together to get Scott's truck to California, where they will be living. This whole duet is back and forth with Holland and Maguire.... and a SUPER slow burn! BUT there is some spicy scenes mixed in to the earlier pages, but they don't actually give in for quite some time! Holland keeps having some bad luck and she thinks that not only is the love that she shares with her father-in-law taboo.... but she thinks it dooms her to bad things happening! Such a good story.... Maguire is SO swoony! And I love the way that he works at her pace through basically all the story..... and only pushes a bit and seems to do it during just the right times!

This series was really hard for me to get into. I think the age gap between the mains is what had me. I couldn't really get into the female main because of her tone. Mind you, I completed this via audiobook.

Cringy, a little redundant and heartbreaking, I sobbed most of the first part.. I still kinda loved the story though.
I’m not sure I could do anything but love anything with Teddy Hamilton narrating it so I may be bias.

I came for smut got my heart broken multiple times. Holland could not figure out her roller coaster emotions which made me dizzy. A taboo love which made it interesting.
