Some people just seem to know they are meant to write, but it can still take a while to figure out exactly what their career will entail. Kate Douglas started out writing radio copy for a country western radio station in 1972, wrote and illustrated an educational cartoon strip for the American Mosquito Control Association for a number of years, was a newspaper reporter for a small town weekly where she covered everything from high school sports to drug busts, and then, in the mid-1980s, decided to write her first romance.

Many submissions and rejections followed.

In 1998, she sold to a small ebook publisher before anyone knew what an ebook was, but it wasn't until 2005, a full twenty years after finishing that first romance, that she signed with a New York publisher.

In January 2006, Kensington Publishing launched their Aphrodisia imprint of erotic romance with Kate's Wolf Tales, a sexy paranormal series about a lost race of shapeshifters. She went on to write 21 novels and novellas in that series, then wrote three other series for Kensington before moving to St. Martin's Press.

She has two series with SMP--The Intimate Relations series complete with three novels and one novella of romantic suspense set in California's wine country, and an erotic paranormal series, Feral Passions, set in California's Trinity Alps.

She is also continuing her Spirit Wild series, the sequel to Wolf Tales, independently.

Kate and her husband of over forty-five years have two adult children and six grandchildren. They live in the small town of Healdsburg, California, in the heart of the beautiful Sonoma County wine country.

ADULT BOOK = ADULT REVIEW ;-)

Overall this book was hot, sexy, and completely smoking!

"Dream Catchers" by Kate Douglas

Wow can I just say I am all strapped in and ready for the journey Ms. Douglas? Do I own everything by Kate Douglas... UH HUH!!!! This story is more sci-fi than I am used to but if it is written by Kate than it is for me. I know there will be two more books by Ms. Douglas is this series and I can't wait! I am not big on sci-fi but I already love this world from the imaginative Kate Douglas.
Douglas never lets me down when writing erotica and I already love Mac, our handsome young computer geek. This story takes place back in the 90's when the great internet boom is about to take place. Mac literally calls out to his dreams girl Zianne and she is given form from his fantasies. What a way to start!

“Taken Between” by Crystal Jordan

“Between” in Jordan’s world means being a shifter, I know I thought it was going to mean a ménage too! While I have read quite a few of Jordan’s outstanding erotic books before this story is going to cost me… all this did was make me add all of her stuff to my to be read stack and heat up my credit card as well as my body temperature!

"The Right Number" by Lynn LaFleur

Now this was a great little number, lol no pun intended, about a sexy wolf shifter who accidentally calls the wrong number and ends up talking to his mate who happens to live 2000 miles away. After some great phone sex they finally meet and get some great action in and out of the bedroom.

Loved every minute of this one thank to the wonderful authors who are always steaming up the pages!

NightShift by Kate Douglas, Crystal Jordan and Lynn LaFleur
Grade: B+

“She was coming here? If it was possible for his wolf to do a happy dance, his did.”

NightShift is a great anthology with stories from Kate Daniels, Crystal Jordan and Lynn LaFleur. Each story is very different but a wonderful PNR full of aliens, shifters and romance. I tried to do some research and see if any of these stories are part of a series but I couldn’t find anything. If they are part of a series my deepest apologies but I still enjoyed each story a lot.

The first story is “Dream Catcher” by Kate Douglas and it’s set in 1992 and is more of a science fiction the paranormal. In this story Mac Dugan is a graduate student on a scholarship and in the running for a grant to help fund his computer research when all of a sudden he is kicked out of school and looses all of his work and funding. Late at night his dream woman appears named Zianne and the chemistry and sex between the two is unbelievable. Zianne begins to help Mac to get his funding back and get back in school and as the two spend more time together Mac soon realizes that Zianne is way more then he ever expected.

This was my least favorite story out of the three and I blame that mostly on the fact that I was very confused about who or what Zianne was and what she wanted from Mac. I never connected with her at all and found myself way more interested in the relationship between Mac and his best friend Dink. I am usually not a fan of M/M/F but this book is the exception. I actually think I would have liked it even better if the whole book had been Mac and Dink and just left Zianne out completely. Not a horrible story but not a series I would want to read about in the future.

In “Taken Between” by Crystal Jordan, Kira is her queen’s head of security and has been in love with Max, the king’s brother and head of security for years. Max is a prince and Kira is the daughter of his father’s servant who raised Kira to believe she would never be good enough for Max. Kira finally acts on her desires and Max is shocked and delighted to finally have her in his bed but both of them have deep seeded issues that they must work out in order to be together. With a human stalking their queen Max and Kira must work together to keep her safe and try to figure out how to save their own relationship alive.

I really, really enjoyed this story. As I mentioned before I’m not sure if this is part of a series but if it is I need to be reading it ASAP. I loved all of the different relationships that were going on and I loved seeing characters heal each others old wounds. The threat of a human stalker gives the story some mystery and suspense which is a nice break from the hot romance and sex going on between Max and Kira. Even though the story is short I really got into the world of Betweens, humans that can shift into animals, and I would love to read more about this world and the great characters that Mrs. Jordan has created.

“The Right Number” by Lynn LaFleur has our characters meeting when Jay Millington of San Francisco dials a Ms. Veronica “Ronnie” St. James of Dallas, Texas. The moment Jay hears Ronnie’s voice his wolf knows she’s his mate and Jay will do anything to track her down, court her and make her his mate. Ronnie feels the same pull that Jay does and the two soon strike up a phone conversation that turns into naughty phone sex. When the two meet their attraction is undeniable but their relationship is anything but easy.

This was my favorite of the whole anthology by far. From the very first page Mrs. LeFleur sucks you right in to a highly erotic tale of fate, love and chemistry. The writing is so hot I thought my book was going to catch on fire a coupe of times and there was a lot of fanning of the face while reading this story. I loved Ronnie who is a very sexual woman and is not afraid to be who she is and get down and dirty with her man. Jay made me mad a couple of times but boy oh boy did he make up for it later. This story is hot, hot, hot!

I am usually not a fan of anthologies but I really enjoyed NightShift. “The Right Number” is worth buying the book for alone and the other stories are good too. I usually find in anthologies one or two of the stories are bad and there’s only one good one but that wasn’t the case here. This is a great collection of very steamy paranormal romance that will keep the pages turning until the very end.

Zianne – a Nyrian, of a planet of energy, enslaved to provide power to another alien planet’s ships, responds to the ‘call’ of computer programmer whiz Mac Dugan – who was sending out a sexual energy fantasy of his perfect woman… and then we have Nils Dinkemann, Mac’s gay best friend since elementary school…

Mac’s computer programming plan has been stolen, and his competitor’s uncle is on the grant board… and Zianne shows up, appearing and disappearing without a door opening… she fulfills his fantasies.. she wants his love, but is hesitant to give him the truth until she is sure he won’t think she’s crazy… someone is out to get him (like with a gun), and Dink gets caught at the bar, and is beaten up… Zianne facilitates his healing… Mac (still a bit confused, and with his life in the toilet) has been easing into the thinking a sexual experience with Dink would be okay – Dink loves him, Mac loves him in a different way – so he allows Dink to initiate him into male/male sex… and when he wakes up between Zianne and Dink, we have a threesome… Zianne gives him the ammunition (bank statements) to take to the chancellor to convict the dean / nephew who stole his research, and were illegally taking grant money… and when 2 men with guns are waiting for them… Zianne dispatches them over the 4 story railing, heals Dink (who had been shot in the belly)… and then explains all… that they need his expertise to come up with a computer program to defeat their enemy and set them free – 20 years of research…

Taken Between by Crystal Jordan
Betweens – half human, half shifter… Kira, newly in charge of the Queen’s guard…Max, head of the King’s guard and Kira’s ex-boss, a wolf shifter …King Elan & Rhiann, lion Between, ruler of their pack and his new bride, and new Between…

Kira, daughter of the royal butler, who taught her to keep her emotions in check and to remember their place as servants… Max and Elan – sons of the former king, who was egotistical, autocratic… grew up together… Max and Elan do not buy into the servant master scenario… Max left to join the Marines when 18 – to get away from his father, with whom he never pleased, and make his own life… Kira left to join the LAPD… both returned when Elan became King… and Kira and Max are friends, know each other well, and have hidden deeper feelings and attraction… and now that Kira is no longer under Max, she decides to act on her feelings… seducing him and a fantastic night of passion…

But both are harboring leftovers from their childhood, and Max, who lost a human love to an outdoor accident, never expected to find love… they go from a one night stand to 2 weeks while guarding the king and queen on their honeymoon… to full commitment…

They use their skills to protect the king and queen – Kira knocking them down when bullets start to fly… and he shifts to wolf, and tracks him and takes him down… and when Kira is hit, and recovering in the hospital, Max realizes how deep he feels for her, and bad stuff happens, but that’s not a reason to be apart while you can…

The Right Number by Lynn LaFleur
Jamieson Edward Millington, and cousin Troy run successful JEMATAR – computer operating systems company… Veronica St James, along with sister and 4 brothers run St. James Security (computer security)… he is in San Francisco, and she is in Dallas Texas… and a misdialed phone call, she picks up – and with her hello, Jay knows he has found his lifemate.

They start to talk every day, they have phone sex, they make plans to get together… unknown to both of them though, his father killed her father when her father challenged him as Tara married his father… and her brother has been tracking Jay down… and thinks he has him (not knowing that that he has the son, not the father who has the same name)… they finally meet face to face… they have sex… they have sex as wolves, mating them together… but Troy calls to say that she is a spy, and then he is shot by her brother’s assassin… and her brother shows up when the pictures provided to verify the shooting have her in the background… and it gets worked out, and new beginnings.

Nightshift by Kate Douglas, Crystal Jordan and Lynn LaFluer
* I received a copy of this book from Kensington in exchange for an honest review*

Dream Catcher by Kate Douglas

Dream Catcher is the first installment in Kate's new Dream Catcher series. Mac has lost everything but his best friend Dink, all because of money and jealously. He had his graduate work stolen and has lost his grants and access to the computer labs on campus. His dream girl suddenly appears in his apartment, complete with violet eyes, after a night of drinking. There is something off about her but he can’t put his finger on it.

Zianne hears Mac’s call and realizes that he could be the one to help save her people. She can’t believe how sexy Mac is and enjoys her time with him but she feels guilty for not being able to tell him the truth about her true self. Between the two of them, they begin work on a computer program that will eventually be instrumental in saving her family.

Mac and Zianne are sexy together, the shower scene was super Hot but the scene with them and Dink was a page scorcher. Strange things keep happening when Zianne is around but when Mac is with her, all of the doubts and concerns seem to fly out the window. I love that the characters were kept to a minimum in this short story. This book provides us with the back story and foundation for future Dream Catcher books.

Overall I really enjoyed this short story and can’t wait to read the next installment.

Taken Between by Crystal Jordan

Taken Between is the second story in the Between series by Crystal Jordan (book 1 can be found in Sexy Beast 9, Between Lovers). Elan has taken over as King of his people. He has been trying to repair the damage his father did when he told the world about them. Now his brother has returned and is heading up the King’s guard, along with his second Kira, their childhood friend.

Kira has been in love with Max forever but he is a prince and she is just the daughter of a serving girl. One of her best friends is now King and she has returned home as part of his guard, she will be taking over the Queen’s guard once Rhiannon and Elan get married. Now that they are both back, she is determined to get what she wants, Max.

Max has returned to help his brother but he is still battling demons from his childhood. He can’t believe it when Kira reveals that it’s not his brother she wants but him. He cares for her but he has vowed to never love another because of his past. He believes everything his father has told him over the years so he doesn’t believe he is anything other than a henchman to protect his brother, the King.

Max and Kira are good together. They have been in love with each other for years but both are too stubborn to admit it. It took them both leaving home to realize what was missing in their lives. They are able to provide each other with what they need to help with the healing process. It takes a near death experience for the two of them to realize that they both want a future together.

The Right Number by Lynn LaFleur

Jay is looking for something new to invest in outside of San Francisco and ends up finding his mate when he makes a wrong call. His wolf immediately reacts to the sound of her voice and he can't wait to actually meet her.

Roni works for her families security firm where her and her sisters make calls on perspective clients while her brothers stay in the office. She has a trip planned for San Francisco and can't wait to meet the man that is driving her wolf crazy.

Jay and Roni can't get enough of each other and are very sexy together. There is history between their packs but they are both oblivious to it and it almost costs Jay his life and Roni.

Overall I enjoyed this anthology and give Night Shift 4 Flaming Hearts.

Night Shift by Kate Douglas, Crystal Jordan, and Lynn LaFleur, three amazing paranormal authors who will take you on three remarkable journeys you will never forget.

Dream Catcher by Kate Douglas

Mac Dugan lives in Silicon Valley. He has lost his grant and computer access on campus because someone stole his work and got away with passing it off as theirs. He lost his scholarship to the university. Essentially, he lost everything. Mac keeps having dreams about a woman with violet eyes and she haunts his every waking moment too. When his fantasy woman appears and calls herself Zianne, he thinks he has gone crazy. What does Zianne want? And where is she from?

Ms Douglas takes us on a sensual erotic paranormal journey in Dream Catcher. I found myself surprised a lot by this book. There are scenes of M/M, M/M/F, and M/F interaction. I was pleased with the pace and the storyline up until the end of this book. I do not like the ending; if I could have skipped that part I would have loved this story. There is not an HEA ending to this story be warned now—I know for me it was a shocker. But I hope in the future, this story is fleshed out and revisited—it has potential to be amazing. In this short story form though, there are too many loose ends and too much sadness for this reviewer.

Taken Between by Crystal Jordan

Kira is a fox shifter. Max Delacourt is a red wolf shifter. She craves him. He avoids her. Max was the king’s brother and her boss. Tonight she is going to seduce Max and show him just what he means to her. What she didn’t count on was him wanting her too.

Taken Between is a paranormal romance with an outstanding story. The main story of the Between (shifters in Ms. Jordan’s world) and court life really made this story a stand out for me. I wish it had been longer because I felt there was much more to say in this world. Out of all the stories in this book, Taken Between is my favorite for having a great romance with a lot of sizzle and a story I could really immerse myself in and want more of.

The Right Number by Lynn LaFleur

Jamieson Edward Millington loved things neat and tidy. Jay is what everyone calls him. When he punches the number to real estate office, he gets a woman’s voice and from the tone, he can immediate tell she is his mate. When he figures out he accidently dialed the wrong number, he wants to meet the woman and find out who she is. Veronica James is not about to give a strange man she has never met her name and address. When he tracks her down, she discovers he is her mate. That changes everything.

Ms LaFleur has a cute short story which I felt was just perfect in length and pace. I smiled a lot as I read this one. There is a connection to the characters that really made this one a joy for me. I wanted the happy ending, and I wanted this one to never end. If I had one word to describe this story, I would say beautiful is the word. While the premise of this story might seem farfetched, the delivery of it made me really believe this could happen and want more of both Veronica and Jay in the future.

Overall, Night Shift is a must read for any paranormal fan. There is sex, romance, and stories which are unforgettable inside waiting for you to read. I know this book will be going on my keeper shelf.

Three books about six different people and their family secret. "Dream Catcher" by Kate Douglas starts the Night Shift off. Mac is a computer programmer in Silicon Valley. Zianne is Nyrian sent to enlist Mac's help for her people. Mac is shocked to meet the true woman of his dreams. Zianne literally walked out of his mind and into his life. Life will never be the same.
"Taken Between" by Crystal Jordan follows Max Delacourt and Kira on their path to forever. Both are shape shifters protecting their King and Queen. Childhood friends and now, lovers? Stress from death threats. Tension with humans. All of this makes it more difficult for Max and Kira to admit what is in their hearts. Will it take tragedy to make things right? "The Right Number" by Lynn LaFleur finds history of two packs converging in one spot. Jamieson Millington is the owner of a big computer company and a busy man. Veronica St. James works for her family's security firm. What would you do if you dialed a wrong number but you knew in your soul the person on the other end was your mate? Jay did what any man would do, he dialed the number again until she answered. They began talking and spending time together, planning a future. Then a shot. How does it tie their two packs together?

I found these books extremely erotic. If you want to have a really hot evening, read each of these books. The fire in these stories will scorch you in a great way. I was able to read all three in a short period of time. They are page turning and wonderful!! A great way to add a twist to an evening with your partner.

The only thing I found wrong was they ended to soon. *smile* I would love to read more by all these authors.

Review for Nocturnereads.com

This Anthology includes 3 stories, but honestly the last one was the saving grace of this book for me.

"Dream Catchers" by Kate Douglas
I am not into sci-fi, nothing against it; I have just never been able to get into it. Aliens just don’t do it for me. There was no warning or clue given in the blurb that this was anything other than a paranormal read. I am sorry to say I didn’t even finish this story.

“Taken Between” by Crystal Jordan
This was a cute little read. I like Kara and Max’s situation and the “Between” world is intriguing. Personally, I didn’t feel an emotional connection. There were no invisible strings holding me to this story until I finished. The potential was there, but it fell a little short for my expectations.

"The Right Number" by Lynn LaFleur
I just love when werewolves find their mates. The instant connection is strong, the sex is possessive, and the ending is forever. I read this story all in one sitting, not needing to put it down and do something else-like the other stories. What wasn’t great about this story is Clint, the ending was way too rushed. Other than that it was a good read.

Honestly this wasn’t my favorite book, but I don’t regret reading it. You don’t fully appreciate the good books if you don’t occasionally read some that are mediocre.

This is an anthology with three stories by authors I had not yet read, Kate Douglas, Crystal Jordan and Lynn LaFleur. I wish I had known that Crystal Jordan’s story 'Taken Between' was the second story in the The Between series. I loathe reading a series out of order. It’s partially my fault for not digging deeper before picking 'NightShift', but it would be nice to have it mentioned somewhere in an anthology’s blurb that an included story is part of a series.

Overall each story was enjoyable and incredibly HOT. I consider the Kate Douglas story 'Dream Catcher' more of a sci-fi story than a shifter story, but since I enjoy sci-fi I had no problems with it. Crystal Jordan’s 'Taken Between' had too much sex (I know, I know, how can that possibly be?!) and not enough plot, but still an enjoyable read. I think Lynn LaFleur’s story 'The Right Number' was my favorite of the three although 'Dream Catcher' was a close second.

If you’re looking for a few quick hot reads then you won’t go wrong with this anthology. I need to look into more stories by these authors.

Completely. Smoking. Hot.

"Dream Catchers" by Kate Douglas

I love my introduction to this new world from Kate Douglas.
Mac, the handsome young man who calls Zianne to him through his dreams has created his own niche in my heart, and I can't wait to read more from Kate as this was just enough to whet my appetite for her new world! Mac is a geeky computer programmer who discovers that through helping Zianne, he is the key to saving not only her race, but humanity as well.

“Taken Between” by Crystal Jordan

A hot shifter romance from Jordan that certainly inspired me to add her to my TBR list!

"The Right Number" by Lynn LaFleur

Imagine finding your perfect match through a wrong number! Wolf shifters, suspense, and lots of hotness made for a great introduction to Lynn LaFleur for me.

I owe Kate Douglas a sincere apology for the delay in posting my review, but a huge thanks as well for the opportunity to win this from the Aphrodisia authors blog contest.

This was 1/3 of the Nightshade Ebook bundle from Library

"Dream Catcher" Original sweet story - love so powerful that it transcends space and time.

"Taken Between" Second in a series by Crystal Jordan.. I am already a fan and she was the main reason I chose this bundle.. Kira loves Max but he does not thinks he is not worthy of love.. She is the daughter of a servant and does not think he would ever stoop to her level.... I will look out for the rest of this series, because I love these characters

"The Right Number" Shifters Jay & Roni meet over the phone and both realise that they are mates... but there is more than just half a continent separating them

You can't go wrong with either of these authors. Both two of my favorites. Never a boring read, always entertaining and heart pounding. I loved this book. Everyone like a little ( or a lot ) of steam in their reads. Turn the fan on and pour yourself a huge glass of tea, turn off your phone and enjoy! It's awesome.

It was just okay. I bought this book for the Kate Douglas story. I wanted to read the first one before deciding if I wanted to get the rest of the books in this series. I decided not to. All of the stories were just okay, not spectacular.
