The Read Write Inc. Phonics storybooks provide structured practice in decoding words and reading through phonics. Each set of books is carefully graded so that children can read them with confidence, as soon as they have learned the sounds linked to the set. There are seven sets of books , with 10-13 books in each set.
I had read this book during phonics but I decided to take this book out and have one of my EAL students re-read the book to me. The book was a perfect way to see how they struggled with their tricky words but also it gave me a link as I was able to ask the child to tell me what they called different animals in their mother tongue (PERFECT ICE-BREAKER). The constant repetition and illustrations allowed children to almost guess the words using the pictures and correct any mispronounced words as they progress through the book.
