Could have used more of Susan's own words though the addition of contemporary context was illuminating.

If you enjoy reading about real-live women's experiences, (think Mary Chestnut's Civil War diaries) you will love this book. I especially liked the way the author went through all of Susan's activities and listed her daily tasks in an appendix.

Mrs. Petroski is a superb researcher. I wish she'd write more books!

A little bit dry but still very interesting.
