Beth Brown needs a holiday. She’s burnt out, single, and madly in love with the man who pays her salary, Joe Bastion. Much as she’d like to act on her feelings, Beth’s learned the hard way not to sleep with men she works for. Far as she’s concerned, Joe is off limits.
Sometimes, to get what you want, you have to chase hard. And Joe wants Beth. He’s organized a trip of a lifetime for her. Beth’s about to set sail into paradise, and she has no idea that Joe’s the one who’ll be taking her there.
Jess Dee lives in beautiful Sydney, Australia, with her husband, their two sons and their insane dog - a ridiculously overweight puggle named Luigi.
An avid romance reader since her early teens, Jess knew one day, when she grew up, she’d have to write her own love stories. It might have taken a while, but in December of 2005, she finally got “the call.” Her first book, Photo Opportunity had been contracted. Now you can’t hold her down. She’s completed a whole host of books, and is finally doing the work she loves most— writing romance.
Originally published as part of the Boys Down Under Anthology, Visiting Paradise is a delightful read, one that I am glad that I got the opportunity to read and review. This has definitely whetted my appetite for more from Jess Dee as it did when I read her novel Photo Opportunity and I need to bump up her titles in my to-be-read pile to get more of her delightful stories.
33 year old Joseph Bastion (Joe) is a family lawyer and works at his own law firm which he shares partnership with his friend and foster brother Simon Sieves. Joe hides a wealth of hurt and loneliness behind his otherwise sunny nature, something which he keeps well hidden until it comes to his current legal secretary who has been driving him nuts with desire to possess and be possessed.
28 year old Beth Brown has had her heart trampled upon once by the one man who had wooed her into a heady affair only to find out 2 months later that he was married. The result of the affair had been Gemma, her now 3 year old daughter who means everything to Beth.
When Beth lands a job working for the handsome and utterly charming Joseph Bastion as his legal secretary, the relationship that develops between them is always fraught with desire and longings that neither of them has voiced till the trip that Joe engineers to bring them both to the shores of paradise and beyond. Beth knows that spending a week aboard the company yacht with only Joe to keep her company is inviting trouble in more ways than one.
This is one of those books that is a nice read, but is hard to connect to because it's so far out of the "normal life" realm.
This girl's boss sets her up to win a week's vacation on the company yacht only to find out when she arrives that he is the captain and the only other person on the boat. Yeah, like that happens every day to most of us.
They have been fighting their attraction to each other for months (Beth fighting must harder than Joe) and this visit to a tropical island is just the thing Joe needs to get Beth to stop fighting.
So, of course they have a great week together and when it's time to go home she has to tell him about the realities of her life.
It was a nice, light, fun read but a little far fetched for me to really get in to.
Beth is Joes' assistant, he is a partner in a law firm. The chemistry between them is strong, until one day, she pushes him away. Damn, she has put him in the boss/employee category! Beth wins a drawing, one week on the company yacht, exploring the islands! Set up by Joe, he is the captain for the week, just the two of them! They both have "issues" to work through. Joe is willing to work through them, but not Beth. She is too afraid to let him know she has a daughter, from a failed affair with her "former boss!" Work affairs are a very bad idea! As chemistry turns into a deep love for each other, will their secrets tear them apart? Read on, this was a beautiful short love story, Jess Dee is a literary master & this is just a sample of her enormous library!! Thank you for being so awesome Jess!
Liked this one a lot. Would love to visit paradise as well ;) well written. If only all men were as devoted and knew exactly what they wanted, life would be a lot easier...
3,75 stars This is one of Jess Dee's earlier works I hadn't gotten around to reading yet! It was a quick read and yet another good story coming from Jess Dee's pen (or keyboard).
It's as hot, carnal and emotional as everything else I've read by her. I loved Joe, and though it took a bit for me to fully warm up to Beth, in the end I did. Beth confused me in the beginning with some very contradicting actions/behavior but that didn't last long. As always Jess Dee knew how to touch me emotionally with her story and by the end I was teary-eyed and sniffy.
Stupid , horribly written , so short that I read it in an hour. I wanted to vomit by the end of the book and if it hadn't of been so short there's not way I could have finished it. I would never recommend this book to anyone and I don't say that lightly. I don't remember ever disliking a book this badly , EVER! I usually find redeeming qualities in books I don't even like but this one I couldn't . It was so stupid is really the best I can say about this book.
I enjoyed this. Short and hot. Likable characters with a lot of good backstory. I loved how Beth tried and tried to resist Joe, but just couldn't. And what better place to give in than paradise?
What a nice quick read. It was short & steamy, as another reviewer commented. It had a positive message @ the end about family not needing blood to tie its members together.
