Meet Abraham Lincoln, by Patricia A. Pingry tells the life story of Abraham Lincoln. It tells of his childhood, and his father remarrying, and his life helping his father. Then, Lincoln moves away, and he decides to start studying law to become a lawyer. He passes the test, and becomes a lawyer, marries his wife, and he also became the Illinois State Legislature. He was asked in 1860 to run in the presidential election, and he won. After this, the South seceded from the Union, and the civil war began. Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation freeing the slaves, and he fought the civil war. His family moved into the white house, and after 5 years, the civil war was over and the south lost, making the United States one country again. In the end, Lincoln was shot in the head and killed by John Wilkes Booth, and white and black people came together to honor Abraham Lincoln as his body returned to Springfield, Illinois on a train. A memorial was built for him in Washington D.C. and he will be remembered for making the United States one country again, freeing the slaves, and for telling many funny jokes.
I give this book 5/5 stars. It told the story of Abraham Lincoln in a very creative way. The story was also made more interesting to kids. It told his whole story from birth- becoming president and through his death. I thought this was very cool, because I never knew how Abraham was raised as a child, or that he was a lawyer before he was president without even going to college. This is a very well-written, educational book that every child should read to learn about Abraham Lincoln.
This book focuses on President Abraham Lincoln's fight for unification of America, and freedom. It is suitable for ages 5-8, so it is an easy read that includes pictures but has lots of information.
This biography allows young readers to see the impact Abraham Lincoln had on America, but also him when he was younger and all of his hopes and dream. I believe this is a good book for teaching kids history, while still allowing them to relate to the characters.
