It should have been Cassidy’s wedding day but her fiancé Ethan has dumped her for another women. So she goes to stay in her friend’s vacant cottage in New Bay. This little picture-postcard cottage is her haven of peace and quiet, a place for her to reflect on what’s happened and think things through about what she is going to do with herself now.

Josh is having a three week holiday staying in his friend’s vacant cottage. He happens to be Cassidy’s work obsessed boss, running a thriving dotcom marketing business. Josh intends to have a great holiday catching up with friends, surfing and having parties at the cottage he is staying in.

The last person Cassidy would have wanted to run into in New Bay would be her boss Josh, so when they run into each other in the local café that was bad enough but they find out that by mistake they have ended up sharing the same cottage. Cassidy is disappointed seeing her chance of some peaceful respite to reflect on things is to be disturbed by Josh’s partying. With neither of them prepared to move out they come up with some compromises so they can share the cottage.

Cassidy is shocked to find that she starts to feel attracted to Josh. Is what she is feeling some kind of rebound effect from being jilted or is it something more?

Another great read from Nell Dixon This book may only be forty-six pages long but it is packed with a good story which can be read in one sitting, which with it being a real page turner of a book is a good thing. Nice likable characters set in a scenic coastal bay. With a hint of romance who could ask for anything more.

When a mix-up accidentally has a mutual friend loaning her beach front cottage to two friends at the same time, Cassidy and Josh have to figure out how to tolerate each other for the duration of their vacation. The problem is, Cassidy is there to recover from her broken engagement and wants nothing more than to be alone so she can wallow in the shambles that she thinks her life has become. Josh, on the other hand, is on his first vacation in a year and a half after working his tail off to get a new business up and running. He wants nothing more than to party it up and have a good time with his old friends.

The author does a great job at describing the setting of a little coastal resort town, which made me wish I could visit the beach. She also does a great job describing, most especially, Cassidy's emotions as she deals with her broken engagement as the day of her canceled wedding arrives and passes. There isn't a lot of time for character development, but you manage to get a feel for the characters personalities even within the short pages of the story. The romance develops quickly, but in a believable way, as both characters evaluate their lives and themselves, coming to certain realizations.

Making Waves is a very sweet, quick read. If you are looking for something to read that you can finish while waiting for an appointment or taking a break from something you should check this one out. It took me about an hour to read it and it was an enjoyable way to pass the time.

I don't read a lot of contemporary romance, mainly because I'm not a big fan of paranormal, alpha males, or lust at first sight. There's nothing wrong with a sex scene, I suppose, but I'm more interested in what characters do for the other 23 hours and 55 minutes of the day. And that makes me a new fan of Nell Dixon, because that's what she writes about--interesting, fully developed characters going through normal lives and finding love in unexpected ways and moments. For me, that's romance.

Making Waves is a novella with a great premise. SPOILER ALERT When Cassidy's fiance dumps her a week before the wedding and runs off with another woman, a friend offers Cassidy a beachside cottage for a getaway. But the friend forgets the cottage has already been loaned out that weekend--to another friend, Cassidy's boss Joshua. She has nowhere to go and he's determined to get his vacation time in, his first for 18 months, so they must make the best of the situation. When Cassidy realizes she enjoys Josh's company out of the office, she must think through her feelings about her wedding-that's-gone. And Josh must tread softly, knowing she's on the rebound and hurting because of it. Through fighting and making peace, hiking across the moor and attending a surfer's party, Cassidy and Josh work out their feelings and start making waves. END SPOILER ALERT

Author Dixon has a neat, efficient, straightforward way with words. Her characters are likeable through their flaws, she doesn't ignore the setting, she's good with character chemistry, and her plots aren't simply thrown together but actually lead somewhere. All in all, this was a relaxing, enjoyable read, without graphic sex or language, happily recommended. I'm glad she's got more novellas out and she's a prolific author.

This is one of those romance short stories, which you read it and wants more.
That was be a Cassidy’s wedding day but isn’t because her fiancée has dumped her. Cassidy was on vacation in her friend cottage in New Bay in pace and quiet. She was housed and accommodates herself in cottage and goes to the beach to think what it happens to her.
In meanwhile, Josh arrived in New Bay on three week holiday in his friend’s cottage. When he went to the beach, he met Cassidy, his employee. Cassidy was devastated she would not meeting anyone who knew her, especially her boss Josh. However, they share the same cottage by mistake.
They must make the compromise to facilitate their vacation.
This story will worm your heart on most romantic way.
Every thing in this story is perfect described by skilled hand of Nell Dixon, a great romance writer.

Don't let the cover fool you - this really is a cute novella.

Hott Synopsis:
Completely ready to take a much-needed break Josh descends on the cottage of an old friend who said he could vacation there.
Obviously forgetting the prior arrangement the friend also loaned the cottage to Cassidy whose fiance just practically left her at the altar.
With two horribly different views of what relaxation means Josh and Cassidy agree to reside together for the next few weeks — or until this tension eases.

Hott Review:
What I liked: This was a really sweet romance. It wasn’t too much too fast just something sweet to while away an afternoon at the beach or by the fire.
What I didn’t like: I did have to pause a few times due to some of the British terminology.

Making Waves by Nell Dixon is a short novella about a jilted bride to be who rediscovers love. Cassidy is nursing her wounds at a friend’s cottage after getting dumped just a week before her wedding. Unknown to Cassidy, her friend has also promised the cottage to another mutual friend – Cassidy’s handsome boss, Josh. We’re never really told whether this was a set up or an accident, but in any case, you can probably guess the outcome. My only criticism is that the book is too short. I didn’t realize until after I finished it that it was only a novella, but I could easily see where the story could have been developed much more. There really weren’t any surprises, but the romance sparkled and I like the author’s writing style. If you’re looking for a quick romantic read, this is for you.

ENA'S REVIEW
The cover is attractive enough, though would I pick it up from a book shelf ? Truthfully, I'm not sure, it doesn't have a wow that grabs me. Its not the best cover of the collection, but it sets the scene I would say.
Cassie needs a holiday to help her get over losing both her job and fiancé. The cottage in New Bay sounds ideal for a quiet, get away to heal the damage she is feeling within her heart.
Josh Parker is also in need of some where to stay for a holiday, his reasons for the holiday are much different to Cassidy's.
So is it fate when it turns out that the cottage is double booked? Will they get on with each other and develop a relationship, or will they hate each other?
Out of five I give it 5/5!

From the beginning you could tell that the tension between Josh and Cassidy was either going to be a recipe for disaster or the start to a wonderful relationship. Josh, Cassidy's boss back in the real world, is there for a nice vacation where he could surf and hang out with his friend. Cassidy is nursing a broken heart and trying to figure out where to go next because she's certain that she doesn't want to go back to her old job where she will have to run into her ex-fiance. After getting off to a rocky start Cassidy's heart begins to soften when Josh cooks her dinner and she starts learning there's more to him than meets the eye. This was a wonderful quick read!

I received this book free of charge from Astraea Press in exchange for my honest review.

This was a sweet and cute romance, but I really wanted more. I loved the premise, but things seemed to move rather quickly; I would have loved to see their whole three-week holiday.
