Rate this book
Matt has been deaf since the age of ten. He had been orphaned in the same tragic accident. The community, mostly ignored him because he never spoke and withdrew into his own solitary world. Ruthie was just a toddler when her family befriended Matt and welcomed him nto their family. He had always been like a big brother to her. He was a constant in her life, especially when her own mother had died unexpectedly. She depended on him. He was like family... until three years ago. He had suddenly withdrawn from her and her dad. She thought she had done something to offend him but was too embarrassed to ask. She was angry and hurt because he had left with no explantion.

Near Ruthie's graduation from high school, he came back into their lives and acted like nothing had happened. What was going on?

This is most definately a self-published style book. There are several typos and what on earth is going on with the speach marks. They are dotted around the text with no ryme or reason and is very confusing, it is almost like a quiz in English class. Where you have to move them to the correct places.

Now the story is good. It really is packed with action. A major development happens at about 40% through the book which leave you thinking is it going to finish here or carry on? Well it carries on....

Ruth was brought up on a farm. Matt's parents died and Ruth's father takes him on as a farm helper and also as family friend. Ruth and Matt's friendship grew. We join the story after they have been estranged for three years. It cause of the enstrangment is a complete mystery to Ruth. She feels resentful that Matt just withdrew his friendship without any explanation.

Ruth is about to graduate, she is now 18, Matt is 26. Matt, out of the blue, reappears in her father's life and Ruth is unsettled. Que romance.

Kyle is a school colleague of Ruth's who is mentally unstable and has his eyes set on her. This introduces a threat to her lovely, cozy life. That is the scene set... any more detail and there would be too much information and the story would be ruined.

I did enjoy that actual story and its plot's beat were well placed to stop the story dragging at any place. But there was just something about the writing style that stopped me fully engaging with it. I felt that all the action was happening in the distance, almost. I wonder if she had altered the tense to present would have helped the reader get more caught up in the fictional life.

I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a nice sweet romance. There is absolutely no sex scenes. I believe that the target audience may be young adults, espcially when the author interupts the prose to explain what words mean, like "getting hitched." I would advise that if the person didn't know, they would get of their arse and look up google. Matt is deaf but it is never clear if he is or not. He communicates through writting and facial expressions and the very infrequent use of sign language. His disability isn't really explored and it felt a little like the author was taking an easy route out of the situation by him not knowing sign language.
