Writing romance sounds fascinating. Huh?

I'm a writer. I'm boring. Day after day I sit behind a word processor making up people in my head. Why do I do it? I love it. My husband, Dave, gets up in the morning, puts on a suit and heads out into the ice and cold of Ballarat's winter. (Sadly I live in one of the tiny parts of Australia that qualifies as cold.) I make myself another cup of coffee, head up to my study, choose what music I want and sit and daydream. And I get paid for doing it. Hooray!

My first attempt at writing romance, 'Dare To Love Again', a Medical Romance, was published by Harlequin Mills and Boon in 1990. It still stands today as a monument to my family's ability to survive on cheese sandwiches and spaghetti.

Since then I've written over 80 Romances for Harlequin Mills and Boon, with more on the drawing board. (I used a pseudonym - Trisha David - for the first few Romances but suffered with a split personality and have since reverted to being Marion Lennox all the time.) In between romances, I've co-authored a non-fiction history, (I love local history) done the odd (very odd) spot of housework and done a heap of travelling - research :-)

I come from a farming community. You can probably tell this from my books. There's not a skyscraper in sight. I'm very much a pets person. Chloe and Harry were my constant canine companions for many years as I wrote, demanding walks and air freshener at frequent intervals. Sadly I lost them, and for a while I vowed not to get another. My heart was broken and my study smelled so clean! But.. The cat and I missed them so badly we weakened and bought Mitzi. Mitzi's a black and silver mini-schnauzer who makes me and the cat laugh. Expect to find her in future stories.

If you're interested in formalities, I hold a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a teaching diploma. I have a couple of kids and a huge extended family who look on me with affectionate tolerance. Marion? The crazy one who talks to people in her head... I've had nine nominations for the Rita, winning twice, and fourteen for the Australian Book of the Year. After years of thinking of my writing as a hobby I guess I finally now qualify as a `real' writer.

Thank your for taking the trouble to check out my web page. Now try my books. We might even end up having fun together. And write to me. I show my family - `See? Real people do like the things that go in in my head.'

After reading Marion Lennox's fiesty heroine in The Prince's Captive Wife, I was curious if she could sustain another heroine with a backbone.

Ding, ding, ding, ding! We have a winner.

Shanni is back home in Australia from London to lick her wounds after finding her boyfriend in bed with a model. Her revenge is to throw water, not just water, but ice water on the two. In fact, she is patient enough to wait until some of the ice melts for max impact. Sadly, dirt-bag takes it out on her by charging up her credit cards and essentially ruining her art gallery.

With no job prospects, her do-gooder aunt sets her up to be a nanny/housekeeper to a baby with one of the aunt's foster sons, but there are 4 kids waiting on a fence when she arrives as overwhelmed dad has taken the fifth child, the baby, to the Dr.

Pierce the daddy is a surrogate dad and he was one of her aunt's foster boys. He married one of his foster sister's in order to take care of her kids. All FIVE.

Shanni does a Mary Poppins in a suspiciously short time, but the attraction between her and Pierce goes nowhere as he is VERY commitment phobic despite adopting 5 kids. The kids are adorable and play a pretty large part in the story. A vacation to a castle that caters to kids with troubles helps the little family to turn the corner on their emotional problems.

The romance does not evolve like most romances in HarleyLand as there is no sex just sexual tension. The H finally overcomes his total and complete abject fear of any commitment and we have a HEA.

There are some holes in the story, and very little romance. However, I was happy to see that it was not just a fluke for Lennox to write a funny and down to earth heroine.

4 Stars! ~ After her boyfriend wracked up a tremendous debt on her credit cards, Shanni Jefferson is forced to close her London art gallery and head home to Australia. Homeless and jobless, she agrees to help one of her Aunt Ruby’s grown up foster sons. She’s agreed to take care of his infant daughter while he find a permanent nanny, only when she arrives at Pierce MacLachlan’s farm she finds four children sitting on the fence waiting for her arrival, and is told that their Dad has taken the baby in to town to the doctor. Pierce is desperate for help. He’s now the adoptive father to five very needy motherless children. But Shanni is much more than he bargained for; she’s bold and fearless and so incredibly cuddly, and she’s driving him crazy, making him want a life he’s vowed that he’s never going to have.

Another wonderful story! Shanni is a feisty heroine who is just what Pierce needs to shake up his resolve to live his life alone. The kids are well written and a charming and important part of the story. Using the Castle at Dolphin Bay as a tool to heal the children after their mother’s death is a great way to reintroduce those great characters from the earlier books. I’m looking forward to reading about Pierce’s foster brothers and more about Dolphin Bay in upcoming books. A thoroughly enjoyable read!

This was 150 pages on my e-reader so I'm not sure why the GoodReads page number says 192. Within that short space it was a beautiful madcap ride of a woman with a failed relationship right in her past connecting to a boy she met when she was ten and he was 16.

There is a huge cast of side characters and almost all become three-dimensional: Aunt Ruby, Susie (and Hamish in one scene) from obviously a previous HR of the author's, Wendy and Duncan, but also Abbie and Bessie among the five children - I think Bryce got the least opportunity to show up.

I could follow the similarities between Shanni and Aunt Ruby and why Pierce felt so comfortable with her right away, not to mention how desperately she was needed (the scene on top of the castle crenellations was hilarious ^^ - there was generally some lovely banter between Shanni and Pierce). I enjoyed the fact that Pierce couldn't recognise that being the "nice one" among Aunt Ruby's boys (who will surely also have or get their own romances) was something to be proud of.

There is no big misunderstanding here, just two people who have to decide whether they want to try love (again or at all) with all the risks that are inherent in doing so. The manoeuvrings of the courtship dance are what makes the book.
