About the author

Vamsy or Vamsi (born Nallamilli Bamireddy on 20 November 1956) is a Telugu Indian film director, screenwriter and music director known for his works in Telugu cinema. In 1985 he received the National Film Award for Sitaara.
Vamsy is one of the very few filmmakers in Telugu who tries to depict the nativity of the concerned story. Although he is well known for portraying the scenic beauty of Godavari and surrounding regions, the element of characterisation is the highlight in his films.

గొదారి నీళ్ళంత తియ్యగా, పులస చేపకూరంత కమ్మగా సాగిన కథలని చదువుతొంటే బుర్రల బండి లాగుతూ ఆడుకున్న చిన్నతనం గుర్తొస్తుంది ఆ అనుభుతిని కలిగించిన వంశీ మా పసలఫూడి కథలని ఎంత మెచ్చుకున్నా తక్కువే.

This collection of Coastal Andhra (particularly villages on the banks of the Godavari) stories is a must read for everyone who knows Telugu. If not for anything else, definitely for the delectable descriptions of the godavari cuisine made more beautiful by Vamsy's trademark story-telling.

చిన్నప్పుడు సెలవులకు మా అమ్మమ్మ వాళ్ళ ఇంటికి వెళ్ళినపుడు స్వాతి మ్యాగజిన్ లో వచ్చే కథలను సరదాగా చదివే వాడిని. వంశీ 'మా పసలపూడి కథలు' ద్వారా మళ్ళీ అలాంటి 72 కథలు చదవగలిగాను. ఇందులో ఉన్న అన్ని కథలూ గొప్పగా లేకపోయినా, కొన్ని మంచి కథలు మాత్రం చిన్న నాటి జ్ఞాపకాలను ఒకప్పటి జీవనశైలిని గుర్తు చేసి మనసుకు హాయిని అందచేసాయి.

Vamsi is an excellent writer. Period! Leave aside the movies, leave aside the other stuff he does.
The way he describes some of the lives is completely surreal for people who grew up in cities or urban landscapes. These short stories let us experience a different world!

కథలు ఎంత బాగుంటయంటే ఎండాకాలం గోదారిలో పడే పున్నమి వెన్నెలమరకల మీద లాంచిలో తిరుగుతున్నట్టు,
వర్షాకాలమప్పుడు మండువా లోగిలిలో పడుతున్న వర్షాన్ని చూస్తూ అమ్మ వేసిన బజ్జిలు తింటున్నట్టు ,
శీతకాలం తెల్లారగట్లా వూరి పొలాల్లోనుంచి చిక్కటి మంచులో తడిసివెళ్తునట్టూ ఉంటాయి..!!

చదువుతుంటే పుస్తకం చదువుతున్నట్టు ఉండదు.

వంశీ గారితో పసలపూడిలో ఏ రోడ్డు పక్కనో కుర్చొని టీ తాగుతుంటే ఎవరైన ఆయన్ని వచ్చి పలకరిస్తే ఎవరండి అని మనం అడిగితే "ఆయనేవరంటే..!!" అని మొదలుపెట్టి చెప్తునట్టు ఉంటాయి..!!

ఇవి 72 కథలు కావు.
72 మంది చరిత్ర.

అమ్మని తాగేసి కొడుతున్నాడు అని నాన్ననే తిరిగికొట్టెసి,
తప్పు తెలుసుకొని నాన్నతో మాట్లడ్దాం అని సినిమా చూసి ఇంటికెళ్ళేసరికి నాన్న చనిపోతే అని వంశీ గారు స్వీయకథ చెప్తుంటే చదివేవాళ్ళు ఆయనలానే బాధపడతారు...!!

I never knew how many times I read this book which is my all time favorite, I was never bored about the characters in this book which touched my heart. The way vamsi projects his fiction is amazing though one will not feel that they were reading a fictional stories my favorite stories are Jakkam veeranna, Kalidindi raju gari kadha, Chittema kase chepala pulusu, aarani poyyi, cinema shooting vallu vacharu, chantamma sampadhana, mary kamala. Also, we must not forget the amazing pictures provided by Director Bapu which are very brilliant and creative if you are from godavari districts please ensure to read this book and make someone to read.

Probably this is one good story collection I read in Telugu. After "Kanyashulkam" this is one good book I enjoyed. This collection though is written based on various characters that the author encountered, but I find useful to other geographical areas as well. Good story collection.
