When Jason and his wife, Grace, find the remains of a young girl beneath the porch of their beautiful new house, they want answers. The police say she was raped and strangled some twenty years ago, when the wealthy Monmouth family owned the residence. But as Jason and Grace examine a cache of old photos and letters, and get acquainted with some of Denver's reckless rich, a sinister picture clicks into focus. And an old evil takes a new lease on life . . . and death.
"This was a good wrap-up to the series, though I could wish she would write more. Not likely at this point, but still.[return][return]There are two main storylines which turn out to have people in common for no discernible reason. The fact that a former occupant of their new house ends up involved in a plot completely unrelated felt a little forced to me, but it did reduce the number of characters to keep straight. I enjoyed the investigation of the events at their house, and the eventual reveal. The secondary plot involving a group of extreme-sport fanatics was even more unbelievable than mystery books usually are, motive-wise. Although the resolution of that one was highly satisfying and adrenaline filled."
A cracking, good mystery and final book in the series. It’s full of deep thoughts about safety, danger, loyalty, and escape. Both cases that Jason and Grace investigate are fascinating. A nice hint of happiness at the end, too.
I borrowed this book because I enjoyed all of Ms. Tepper's books. I found this mystery to be well written and enjoyable. I like Jason. This was a good read for me and I'd recommend to other mystery lovers.
