Jemima J was my first Jane Green book and I have been hooked on this author ever since. It is a story about a London gal and I love that the language, setting, customes, etc. all are British.

I am having a hard time with this read. First, I was put off by an American author who felt it necessary to have a British setting and characters for chick lit to be successful. I have a feeling Jemima Js desperation is going to tone down a little, because right now it is a bit much. Although, in fairness I guess most women have been that desperate at a time in their life over weight and a man. I liked the ending, but my feelings toward the narrator never changed. Also, all the near miss opportunities between JJ and Ben were a bit too much, it seemed a little contrived to me. As I was reading I was thinking, wouldn't it be nice, but I know they are not going to see each other. Predictable, is the word I am looking for.

So far the story is simple and predictable which I appreciate in these chick lit books so that part is good. I have to say though, this is one of the most horribly written books I've ever read. I was embarrassed about the way it was written. Not because people could see me reading it. I was embarrassed for the author. I still am actually since I'm still reading it. I am hoping it will get better. I am hoping that at some point in bold print will be the word PSYCH! and then the real book will start. I know it won't though. I must be a masichst

I'm still deciding what made me read this book so fast. I liked the story of personall success, but I didn't liek the way the book was written. The 3rd person opinions just didn't fit in there.
Otherwise, it was a page turner for me, because I wanted to find out what was happening...

I didn't really like the way this book, jemima j was written. Sort of first person and a narrator who said the obvious stuff. It is very similar to Good in Bed, but not nearly as well done.

Really I've only read Jemima J, but it was a doozie! If you've ever been concerned about appearances/weight loss, you'll get a real kick out of this one!
