A striking collection of 40 cross stitch designs adapted from the work of celebrated artists from the turn of the last century. Designs by William De Morgan, Gustav Klimt, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and Mucha, among others, have been cleverly translated into cross stitch patterns and stitched up into a wide range of projects, such as table linens, pictures, a needlework box and a pincushion.
I really liked the cross stitched wall clocks, never seen that before and it’s both practical and weird, so extremely my taste. Clock mechanisms are dirt cheap and easy to find. I’m not going to make either of them because the clock patterns don’t have numbers and I’m too stupid to read an analog clock without numbers, but I love the idea.
This book has some utterly fabulous designs. I made the snowdrop pillow for my father and step-mother, and they love it. I swear I'm going to do that huge peacock rug one of these days, when I have enough guts and a house with a decor it'd look appropriate with!
The back of the book says it has over 80 designs, unlike the Goodreads blurb that mentions 40. And they’re completely different designs than Barbara Hammet’s follow up book “Cross stitch art nouveau”, so I suggest taking a look at both books!
There is information on the art nouveau movement, and many patterns are inspired by, or adaptations from, original art nouveau pieces. Patterns in the book include:
Art nouveau style women New year greeting cards Floral designs A luxurious peacock floor rug Instructions how to use designs for table linens, cushions, picture frames, clocks, handkerchiefs, bookmarks, towel borders etc Tiffany stained glass inspired designs Smaller motifs easily used in a variety of projects An array of border/thin rectangular patterns
Most, but not all, of the patterns have a finished photographed example in the book. There is a wide variety of art styles included, so in my opinion, most people will find something they like in this book whether or not they already like art nouveau style.
Apparently beautiful designs are completely ruined in this Kindle version ... 😕
What a waste! And a huge disappointment! Glad I was able to preview this in KU. Found a cheap, used paperback of it instead. Hope to incorporate some of these pieces with other designs but would never do cross stitch using an e-version pattern anyway! I prefer to see the pattern offerings first then buy the paperback if something catches my eye. Don't waste your hard earned money on this Kindle version.
This lovely excellent book, teaches, shares enthusiasm of the cross stitch hobby and really has BEAUTIFUL Art Deco patterns. Most wonderfully this author helps you to know how to embellish and frame your beautiful piece of handmade art.
A great collection of patterns, including the source art! There's quite a variety, and I especially enjoy the floral, stained glass, and border patterns.
This book includes some beautiful Art Nouveau designs for counted cross-stitch or needlepoint. I've marked three patterns to stitch in the future. An nicely bound book with good background material on the symbols used in the designs as well.
This one has a peacock cross stitch rug that is unbelievable, a very long term project! And some great borders in the art nouveau style. I don't like every project but the ones I like are fabulous!
