i dont know what it is about this book that pisses me off. it might be because every time she comes to the store it is like an invasion. or it could just be the content. i thought at first it was because i dont know any "guys" like the guys this book seems to be intended for so i coundnt contextualize it in my personal life. most of the guys i know are good cooks already. (no one is talking about you, connor) but then i realized that this book is so inconsistent that the guys it is targeted for dont really exist.. its not the food - the food is fine - thats why i got the book myself. its the perky "you go kitchen-guy" attitude that pervades it that is making my skin crawl. quotes: "heads up: read through a recipe before you start cooking" , "relax - youre not racing the clock, youre only making dinner" "no fancy equipment or hard-to-find ingredients required" . so its sweet, right... she seems to think that this book is intended for mildly retarded giant lumbering ham-handed men who have never cooked before. great big burly drunken football watching whats a measuring cup kind of man... and then - BARBECUE SAUCY SALMON ON ROMAINE SALAD WITH ORANGE VINAIGRETTE?? BLUE CHEESE AND WALNUT SPINACH SALAD WITH MAPLE DRESSING?? these are not recipes for the kind of men the instructions are geared towards. i dont see mr lumberjack deglazing, somehow. but the recipes work and are tasty so i cant complain about that. but i can complain about "spicy o-nuts" which are just spicy onion rings and are only called o-nuts because the book is for men, and that word makes them laugh...
