This premise of this book is fascinating. The idea of universal liberty was foreign to our Founding Fathers. Liberty was a privilege and not a right that belonged solely to elite white men only. In the context of this notion, many of the Founders' contradictions make more sense.
However, the book is rather redundant and tedious with the amount of quotes in it. I felt I got everything I needed out of the book from the introduction. After a strong start, the book is laborious to get through.
