Одразу попереджаю це не підручник, а справді-присправді короткий оверв'ю галузі. Так, тут таки буде згадано і про типографію, і про простір, баланс та ієрархію, про симіотику дизайну (образ, символ, індекс), про мапування ідей, про брифування завдання та дослідження, тощо.

У цій першій книзі із серії ви не віднайдете глибоких роздумів та пояснень більшості теоретичних питаннь, які стосуються графічного дизайну.
Гадаю (та ні скоріше надіюсь) автори певні поняття для кращої викладки матеріалу просто винесли до наступних частин із серії. Дуже хотілось би отримати все ж більше практичної й грунтовнішої та інформативнішої теоретичної бази стосовно типографії, візуальної мови, композиції і т.п. Приємно вразило, що дане видання адаптоване для укрїнського читача - у прикладах є зразки шрифтів українською, є примітки! <3

Мені книга сподобалась, я отримала свою порцію нової інформації, і найголовніше насолодилась книгою, як чудовим зразком графічного дизайну в цілому :)
Із серією продовжу, і справді погоджуюсь з авторами що, чим більше ти дивишся і бачиш, чим більше ти слухаєш і чуєш, тим глибшим і досвідченішим, креативнішим ти стаєш! Будьте спраглими до всього, що вас оточує!

Я впевнена в тому, що успіх в будь-якій справі залежить від здібності творчо мислити. Сьогодення базується на творчих професіях, а майбутнє залежить від творців. Тому багато часу приділяю питанню креативності.
В чому різниця між креативністю та творчістю? Ніякої різниці нема. Це синоніми, як, наприклад, конструктор та дизайнер — це теж синоніми. Тобто, творча людина та креативна людина — синоніми.
Професії майбутнього будуть поєднувати інженерні та конструкторські знання + творче мислення. Прогнозують у 2030 році цікаву професію «science - художник».
Для того, щоб бути в тренді, та не опинитися в ситуації - «я ні кому не потрібен», розвивайтеся творчо і ця книга допоможе в цьому.

I picked the book hoping to get a practical insight into the design discipline and an introduction to the process and the design language... but was disappointed as it's a very basic book (even for a non-designer like me) and fails to excite or stimulate ideas...

However I found some of the work reproductions included to be thought provoking and hence a more practical reference to the power of what can be achieved thru simple and effective design... e.g. Anthony Burrill's London Underground's safety communication is an interesting example of a simple (boring) hard-hitting message presented in a different and striking way, making it not just eye catching but both accessible and engaging.

I also liked Alexandra Bucktin's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and how a simple graphic evokes many of the themes found in the story thru group of icons and simply by placing them in the shape of a heart, manages to capture the emotion as well making it a signifier of the experience as well!

The section on Gestalt (translates into a configuration, pattern or organised field that has specific properties that cannot be derived from the summation of its component parts) theory was interesting - the theory focuses on the perception that a singular entity is constituted of a series of parts, each with its own individuality and yet when these parts are brought together they form a whole and singular entity... it's principles are based on the premise of similarity, continuation, closure, proximity, figure ground and figure... the goal is to translate the pieces into a holistic, unified and singular entity where the whole is more than the sum of it parts...

My one takeaway from the book is a quote from Edward De Bono 'There is no such thing as information overload, only bad design.'

I hated this book and would have loved to return it if I could. I am only giving it 3 stars because it has a few pretty and contemporary examples and it never promised to be what I wanted it to be. This was not an investment in the end, it was completely useless. It's not a guide, it's not a how-to book. As far as actual design concerned it gives one very little clues as to what makes good design and what are design's definite don'ts. And even the things that it claims to do, it barely touches upon in a very superficial and skimming way. It doesn't explain even the basics of the design movements it covers in the history chapter. And regarding fonts, it says that certain types are there (modernist, transitional) but it doesn't give any examples of those as to aid understanding what is the essence of each classification. And some of the more complex cognitive concepts are presented without regard to being accessible. It's like author was very full of himself for knowing as much as he does and being able to present it in presudo-intellectual way. Very few bits of the book are enlightening in any way or even educational.

В книзі описані зовсім елементарні та поверхневі речі. Форма подачі інформації не вразила.
Книга буде корисною для людей, які ніколи не цікавились графічним дизайном і не мають взагалі ніяких знань данне ремесло. Нажаль інформація з книги не прикладна. Набагато краще буде прочитати більш поглиблені книги, як мінімум: з типографіки, основ композиції, теорії кольору, історії мистецтв та архітектури.

Неймовірно! Прекрасний проект і прекрасне втілення - покроковий і систематичний виклад основ того, чим є дизайн. В принципі, ніби все це відомо практикам, але зазвичай ніколи не зводилося на особистому рівні у систему. Саме в цьому основна цінність серії. Окремо треба відзначити дуже фахову підготовку українського видання. Чекаю продовження! 🙂

Good foundation into the graphic design field.

I thought the book was informative to those that are considering graphic design degrees. The book explained the basics of starting with a brief all the way to completion of a work for presentation. It explained the process at every step of the way.

Toplamda on kitaptan oluşan alanla ilgili insanların fazlasıyla yararlanabileceği, eğitici ve göze hitap eden; sayfa düzenindeki görsel ve yazınsal unsurların tasarısı ile de evin baş köşesinde sergilenebilecek bir seri.
Ben henüz serinin sadece ilk kitabını tamamıyla okuyabildim, diğerlerine sadece göz gezdirmekle yetindim. Bunları da üniversitemin kütüphanesine borçluyum, zira satın alma fırsatım da olmadı, malum ekonomi kötü, kitap fiyatları da ateş pahası.
