I live with my beautiful wife by the merely-pretty-in-comparison water in Southern California.

I’m going to try to be more on top of what goes on here from now on, but I have, sadly, paid too little attention to my Goodreads account. It is a mess at the moment and is proving very difficult to clean up. But I’m trying. :)

In my first foray into publishing, I published a novel in serialized format. Once it was complete, I put the books together into one book. On my Goodreads author page, that appears as quite mess. So here’s the thing... there is really only one book called King’ s X: A Supernatural Epic. It is the first of a larger cycle, with a new novel called “Corsair: the King’s X Protocol” coming very soon. Unfortunately, I can not hide the now unavailable serialized editions on Goodreads. So I’m sorry about the confusion and the mess. I’ll do better from now on... :)

This last book in the present series once again picks up the stories of Book and Molly in L.A and Broussard and Khali back in the 13th Century. This installment is quite dark, with a lot of action and more than a couple of the main characters facing death. Shahin plays a greater role and I felt he developed a lot as a character in this book.

Once again we find out more and more about the power of King's X, and more links between the two time frames are exposed. They gave me a feeling of a circle being completed and were very satisfying but I felt a bit daft for not seeing some of them coming. Book, who has really suffered throughout the books is finally starting to come to terms with what happened to his father before his death, and realising his life has changed beyond recognition but his greatest concern is still for Molly. This installment was pacey and action packed, but I was still emotionally invested enough in what was happening to the characters to feel my stomach sink, or to feel enormous relief at parts in the story.

The end is very dramatic and while lots of threads have been tied up, due to the nature of King's X, I was left wondering if all was as it seemed. I'm slightly sad to have finished the final book in this part of the series but mollified as Stephen has talked on this blog about a new installment later this year, moving from the Crusades to the Elizabethan era. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for that! I would heartily recommend the series, and suggest you try and read them close together to save any hopping back to previous installations to refresh your memory.

In contrast to Episode 1, I couldn't bear to let this episode come to an end. I almost finished it in two nights but wanted to spin my reading out for as long as possible.
Perhaps because the narrator of the story regularly changes from one character to another I found them all appealing. I never tired of switching from recent to ancient history. I found both settings and both groups of characters totally believable. The eternal conflict of good and evil and the battle for power never fails to enthrall. A suspicion I had proved correct but in no way spoiled the story.
I thoroughly enjoyed the installment experience and still have the promise of re-reading it as one thick, juicy book some other time. The story is satisfying enough as far as it goes in this series but there is a lot of scope for more (much more, please) to be told. I hope the author has already started the next batch of episodes, I really look forward to reading them.
