This is such an irresistibly charming series. It follows a young girl called Natty, and Ned, the magic pony who lives in a poster on her wall.
'Had Mr Cosby known all along that Ned's poster was magic, that the pony in the picture came alive, and that sometimes he might be proper pony size and sometimes as tiny as Percy, the smallest of her china horses?'
Ned is mischievous and fun -- in this one he helps Natty play a prank to two girls who were trying to scare her. It's a highly enjoyable book and I absolutely love the illustrations by John Eastwood. I'd definitely recommend this for younger readers, especially if they like ponies.

I really am not familiar with this series but it seems like a fun series idea for young girls who dream of having a pony. Ned is a magical pony who is on a poster. He can occasionally come to life and has the ability to change size. He helps his little girl get revenge on the mean neighbor girl by making her believe her house is haunted.

I know I would have quite enjoyed this book when I was little. It certainly fulfils some of the fantasies I had as a child about getting revenge on some of the kids who picked on me. While not all that believable, it is imaginable - and that’s what matters.

This book is rated as Reading Level 4. The story line is original, but sentences of forty words is beyond the pale.

In the fifth book in the Magic Pony series, Ghost in the House, young Natty has a great adventure with her unusual horse, Ned. Natty spends as much time as she can with Penelope because she owns a real horse. However, this neighbour is spoiled and bossy and at times she bullies Natty.

Lindsay, Elizabeth. Ghost In the House. (2010)
Annie is asked by her neighbor, Penelope, to help take care of her pony. Annie is super excited, but soon she discovers something spooky going on at Penelope's house. Luckily, Annie has her magic pony to help her uncover the mystery and plan a little surprise of her own.
Themes: haunted, a little scary, magic, friendships, horses,
Ideas: Class read aloud, easy beginning chapter book, can be used as an introduction to the fantasy genre for 1-3rd graders. Students can brainstorm about other fictional characters they have read about or seen in television shows. Compare and contrast real animals to animals in fiction stories.

Another horse book for my horse crazy daughter. My son doesn't mind them either since Ned is usually us to some mischief! We'll be looking for the next one in the series!

This was a good story. I like the idea of a magic pony that can do special things and help in times of trouble.

I really have no basis on which to judge this book, so I give it three stars. It probably would have been right at the top of my list when I was a child, though!
