Second best book about living a Christian life is simple and easy to understand and that's because Howard hill was a simple easy understand man ,I knew him and heard him speak . Christian life is not easy but if you follow the owners manual BIBLE And to be like Jesus because he died for you and rose again on the third day sets on the right hand of God in heaven waiting to come home to get his kids . I was born again 45 yrs ago and I'm getting closer to heaven every day
Practical, down to earth, and filled with humor. Mr. Hill shows how he has a daily relationship with God and living a Spirit filled life. His examples are relative even to today’s world, maybe even more so. I learned about leaning on God’s will continuously, pray without ceasing, remembering to give praise and Thanksgiving continually, and speaking in tongues as being a gift from a loving father.
And easy read that gives the testimony of the author. From a miserable alcoholic to joy filled believer. There is a strong emphasis on simple faith in the believers handbook – the Bible. Each chapter is a “how-to” with personal testimony. Very enjoyable read.
A good friend gave me this book to encourage me. Unfortuately she gave m the German translation which is so bad that I felt very distracted. What is more important are some theological doubts I have, not only with this author. I do believe that God hasn't changed, that He gives us His Holy Spirit and the gifts mentioned in the Bible, but you can't take 3. John Vers 2 ("Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul") interpret as God saying he wants to heal everybody, when it is just John's wish for the readers of his epistle. Nor can you state that every Christian (who's baptized in the Holy Spirit, something that seemingly aren't all reborn Christians?) will receive ALL the gifts as mentioned in 1. Korinthians when 1. Kor. 12: 8-11 clearly says: "For TO ONE is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and TO ANOTHER the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, TO ANOTHER faith by the same Spirit,TO ANOTHER gifts of healing by the one Spirit, TO ANOTHER the working of miracles, TO ANOTHER prophecy, TO ANOTHER the ability to distinguish between spirits, TO ANOTHER various kinds of tongues, TO ANOTHER the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who APPORTIONS TO EACH ONE INDIVIDUALLY as he wills.
Books like this one only help to make all those Christians feel bad and unsufficient who don't experience these powers in their every day life although they are meant to encourage faithful prayer and trust in God in every situation.
