She spent seventeen years in the Denver metro area and now resides in Texas with a large dog and pet cats. Office work provided a living while she pursued the goal of becoming a novelist. Forming the partnership with Cathy Clamp was the catalyst that led to publication and the two have enjoyed a long and fruitful collaboration, with two series published within the Tor Paranormal Romance line: The Sazi, and the Kate Reilly/Thrall books. In addition they have authored stand-alone novels and participated in several anthologies. Working both as a team with Cathy and individually, Cie plans to be involved in writing novels for years to come.
There is obviously a large world behind this short story, but there is little explained, and not even the character's relationships are explained well. It seems to be leaning on the paranormal side or urban fantasy.
I wondered if there was a reason the characters were Russian? There didn't seem to be any evidence for why contained within this short bit.
Olga is a fast-paced PNR short brought to you by the wizards at Tor.com. It stars a centuries-old wizard, Olga, as she becomes embroiled in a magical duel that is years in the making. As an earth wizard, Olga can draw her powers from the planet itself, and there is some beautiful imagery in the book with the locations Olga visits, including the majestic volcano at Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland and the barren beauty of Joshua Tree National Park. Three cheers for wizards and Lonely Planet travel guides!
I read this story, mainly because one of my favorite illustrators in the world did the painting for it...which probably isn't a great reason to read something, but eh, I enjoyed it all the same. The system of magic is interesting to say the least, and I would like to see some more (longer!) stories set in this world.
A short story about a magical duel (more or less), this feels like it could have been an entire novel but was distilled down to a fairly short tale. It lacks the depth that the story required to make it more interesting and instead is a minor blip of an action tale.
I liked the setup of this book which is the can good overcome evil even if emotional tied to the one who is evil. The story started off fast but for some reason to me, fizzled a bit in the second half. There was enough to hold my interest but nothing that really grabbed me.
This one is better then the last one I read, but I think I would have liked it better as a novel. There was no time to build any characterization so the relationships all felt flat and the betrayal just seemed uninteresting. The world building was good though.
A world where mages exist and their very laws are being shaken apart (almost literally). I liked hearing about Olga's abilities and her world (despite its brutality at times). I wouldn't mind hearing more stories about these mage/wizard agents in the future.

It's a fun, quick little read, perfect for when you only have half an hour to read. I do kind of wish there'd been a bit more back story, but it was enjoyable as/is.
