I am reading through books by my friend Jay Oles while staying at our mutual friend Bonnie’s house. I had never heard of Helen Levitt but i decided to read the book when I saw the striking photographs of people in Mexico City. Jay’s essay discusses how the photographs show the emergence of Mexico City as an urban city vs a rural outpost. The images in the book depict Mexicans in the emerging urban landscape. A really interesting book about Mexican photography by a famous American photographer.
