Leaning more towards 3.5 stars. The premise of the book, like the title suggests, is an archaeological history of the holy land of Israel. However, the book devoted very little time to the biblical period, around 100 pages. Most of the book covered the pre-Israelite period. While still interesting, it took time for the book to progress to the period I was interested in leading me to be bored the last 100 pages.

وصلني هذا الكتاب عن طريق موقع الأمازون و هو باللغة الانكليزية و غير مترجم حتى الآن.

من تأليف كاثلين كينيون و هي عالمة آثار بريطانية و تعتبر من أكثر علماء الآثار تأثيرا في القرن العشرين.

هذه هي الطبعة الرابعة و الأخيرة حيث صدرت بعد وفاة كينيون بعام واحد اي في 1979.

كما يبدو من العنوان، يتحدث الكتاب عن التنقيبات الأثرية التي حصلت في مواقع الأراضي المقدسة في القرنين التاسع عشر و العشرين. و على ضوء هذه التتقيبات كتبت كاثلين تاريخا لفلسطين معتمدا على الاثار و ليس على الكتاب المقدس ( و ان بقي التأثير واضحا) ابتداءا من عصور المستوطنات الاولية حتى نهاية مملكتي اسرائيل و يهوذا على يد الاشوريين و البابليين على التوالي.

الكتاب يحوي ايضا على صور ممتعة لبعض اللقى الاثرية.
