This book could be used with upper elementary students, possibly even 6th-8th graders. One intereststing feature of this book is that each poem is so different, and several of the poems have phonetic spellings, which would be interesting to talk about with students.

The title is deceiving in that the poetry is more for older students, but J and I enjoyed several in here.

This Poetry book is filled with many inspiring and heartfelt poetry to teach young children how to be proud of themselves. These poems teach of Black culture and how to be proud of your heritage. This poetry book is educational and entertaining altogether and can inform others of other cultures about this culture and it's origin. This poetry book is very vivid in it's details in each poem and it is one that will leave the reader pondering and in amazement. The poems center around pride but also the struggles of the African American community. It was an interesting and fulfilling read and it helped to add dept and ancestry to the children's book I am composing.
