The National Geographic Society (NGS), headquartered in Washington, D.C., United States, is one of the largest nonprofit scientific and educational organizations in the world.
Founded in 1888, its interests include geography, archaeology, and natural science, the promotion of environmental and historical conservation, and the study of world culture and history. The National Geographic Society's logo is a yellow portrait frame—rectangular in shape—which appears on the margins surrounding the front covers of its magazines and as its television channel logo. Through National Geographic Partners (a joint venture with The Walt Disney Company), the Society operates the magazine, TV channels, a website, worldwide events, and other media operations.

Like it! A wide examination of a variety of places to visit. Not just focused on nature related regions but historical places too.

I really enjoyed this book. It highlights some amazing towns that I would love to visit. It is exactly what I wished the last travel book I read had been (but wasn't). It has just enough info on each town to make you interested. It has a limited but useful listing of what to do, where to stay and eat, and price ranges for these places on each town. I wish I owned this book so that I could earmark the pages and make notes on the towns I want to visit. I have visited only 2 in the book. I was most interested in Pennsylvania which has some really quaint artistic towns that I'd love to see!

I'd recommend this for anyone who loves to travel, but would like to see something a little less showy or touristy than the main towns you always hear about, and doesn't mind staying in older victorian inns or bed and breakfasts!
