The very handsome man sitting on Alice Dougherty's sofa and asking for her advice was none other than Hayes Bradford - the widowed father she'd once come so close to marrying. It seemed like yesterday that Hayes had broken her heart, yet it had been twelve long years since she'd seen him and his adorable little son. But now that son was all grown-up and had gotten a lovely young woman in the family way. Yet Hayes just wasn't ready to be a grandfather, and suddenly Alice found herself in the middle of the family she still very much wanted to call her own...
A New York Times and International bestselling author, Erica Spindler's skill for crafting engrossing plots and compelling characters has earned both critical praise and legions of fans. Her stories have been lauded as “thrill-packed page turners, white- knuckle rides and edge-of-your-seat whodunits.”
Erica loves meeting and interacting with her fans, both in person and online. She has a wicked sense of humor, an optimistic spirit and loves coffee, chocolate and red wine, not necessarily in that order.
In 2002 her novel Bone Cold won the prestigious Daphne du Maurier Award for excellence. A Romance Writers of America Honor Roll member, she received a Kiss of Death Award for her novels Forbidden Fruit and Dead Run and was a four-time RITA® Award finalist. In 1999 Publishers Weekly awarded the audio version of her novel Shocking Pink a Listen Up Award, naming it one of the best audio mystery books of 1998.
Erica lives just outside New Orleans, Louisiana, with her husband and two sons.
Hero is aloof and cold, he thought love is being strong and he let the heroine go twelve years ago knowing that she hated him and he broke her heart but he was too disillusioned to make her happy, his wife had just died after being unhappy and he suspected suicide. They meet again years later and the emotion and chemistry is still there, the hero can't live without her but doesn't name that love plus he is losing his son who has a pregnant girlfriend. It was difficult liking the hero, he was so emotionless that he couldn't grieve when the heroine lost their baby instead he broke it off with her for her own good. The heroine is a counselor who helps people, she had a terrible life, abusive parents, pregnant at nineteen and then losing her baby and the hero but I liked how strong she was yet vulnerable and how she saw herself in a pregnant teenager. The book had plenty of angst.
After reading the blurb and a few pages, I decided not to continue with this book. It didn't have the plot I expected and I wasn't interested in seeing how this played out.
