I read this novel a while ago, and still reread it often it is absolutely one of my ALL time favourite books. I must think about it once a week. Even more so when I was driving back and forth to the Eastern Cape. Set in the Karoo the story concerns a young girl name Rosie who lives on a farm with her two brothers, her mother and her father. while out with her father helping him to dip their sheep she finds a wild hare tethered up in a barn-the hare will be used to make Muti but Thanti Myakisu; the jackal trapper. Feeling sorry for the hare she releases it and takes it home with her to keep as a pet. How ever she knows that the hare can never be tamed and so she sets out to let him go free. A great short story and a wonderful children's story. With wonderful illustrations it really gives a feel for living on a farm in the Karoo.
