OK, I will admit that I bought this one for the title. The fact that it has Gulliver Jones and was set on Edwin Arnold's version of Mars was cool, but EAP's name sold me. This is one of the first Black Coat Press books that I have read that was an original work, rather than a translation of an older french book.
While Gulliver of Mars is an interesting book, especially to a fan or Burrough's John Carter books, it is not a great read. The Lofficier's have taken that world and created a far more interesting, darkly whimsical version. While Poe's inclusion seems to have primarily been an excuse to steal names (Montressor, Ligaea, Rodrick Usher), I found that the story more than made up for the lack of any real Poe feel to the character. Poe becomes simply a 19th century man dragged off to a fantasy world, but the story is good enough to make me forgive.
