Four classic stories about Edward, the kindest engine in the shed. Edward may be old, but he is very loyal. Whether it is with a silly cow on the line or a scary runaway train, Edward is always eager to help out.

Wilbert Vere Awdry, OBE, better known as the Rev. W. Awdry, was an English clergyman, railway enthusiast and children's author, and creator of Thomas the Tank Engine, who starred in Awdry's acclaimed Railway Series.
The characters that would make Awdry famous, and the first stories featuring them, were invented in 1943 to amuse his son Christopher during a bout of measles. The first book (The Three Railway Engines) was published in 1945, and by the time Awdry stopped writing in 1972, The Railway Series numbered 26 books. Christopher subsequently added further books to the series.
Gotta love Edward! This Book contains the Stories Cows, Bertie's Chase, Saved from Scrap & Old Iron.
With some Good Artwork from Clarance Regnald Dalby.
All 4 stories Were Wonderfully adapted for The Second Series of Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends that aired on Children's ITV from the 24th of September, The 1st of October & the 8th of October 1986.
There is so much to like about The Railways Series. The personification of the engines, cars, buses and tractors, allows readers, especially children learn lessons about behavior, getting along, justice, etc., in a non-threatening way.
This particular book was very enjoyable for me as two elderly machines due to be scrapped were instead found to be still useful and refurbished instead. The messages these stories tell are so wonderful and children need to hear them.
I read this to my little boy in the evening and both he and I enjoyed it. I have the complete collection but chose this as it's my son's name. The stories are lovely and endearing but are short enough for a little ones attention to keep up.
The first two stories are okay, but kindness goes a long way and the last two stories show that off really well. Would be very happy to learn kids read these and still are!
