This book is a MUST Read! It will keep you on the edge of your seat....You will not want to put it down!! It is a story of forgiveness, hope and redemption, and faith!!!
After participating in a previous blog tour for this author, I was excited when she asked me to join this one as well! When it comes to Inspirational Romance I can be a little hesitant on accepting the book for review. Since I read the previous book by the author, I knew that she had the ability to pull it off without coming across as "preachy" that some books in this genre can be like.
When Heather loses her sister in a plane crash that they were both involved in, she can't get her sisters final words out of her head -- "Follow The Drugs." While she is recuperating from her serious injuries in the hospital, she finds herself the victim of a killers cover-up. This is where we meet Sheriff's Deputy Jeremy Latham. He arrives at the hospital to follow up on some questioning into the helicopter crash when he hears her screams from the hospital room. The attacker gets away, but Jeremy finds himself involved in an undercover cover-up that Heather has also fallen into unknowingly. Together they try to figure out who is behind the helicopter crash and was determined to silence Heather to the point of murder.
I really enjoyed this book from beginning to end. Jeremy was a great hero and I loved his sense of humor. Heather was strong willed and independent which Jeremy found out a few times on his own with humorous results. At first I didn't know who the killer was, but then as you started adding up the puzzle pieces you can easily figure it out. Even though you figure out who the killer is on your own deductions, the author still did a wonderful job of keeping you interested in the story to keep you reading until the end. I just had to know the whole story and wanted to know why this person would do it.
The only problem I had with this book was that it seemed a lot of the chapters ended the same. It was always with Heather or Jeremy saying a little prayer that the other was all right. Those chapter endings were the only thing that annoyed me at times because it reminds you that you are reading an Inspirational Suspense book. There are a few scenes in the book where each of them try to tell the other certain parts of the Bible, but it is done in a way that didn't come across as forced on the reader. They were more like little hints and fit with the story when it needed it.
I also liked that fact that several of the characters in the book were from her previous book titled Vanishing Act. It was a delight to see how the other characters were doing after their story had ended.
If you don't mind the book being from the Harlequin line of Inspirational Suspense, and you can overlook a few prayers and scriptures through out the story, then this would be a great book to read. It has suspense, romance that isn't over the top, humor and mystery to keep you interested until the end.
Title: CODE OF JUSTICE Author: Liz Johnson Publisher: Love Inspired Suspense March 2011 ISBN: 978-0-373-44434-2 Genre: Inspirational/romantic suspense
FBI agent Heather Sloan and her sister, Kit, had been on a sight-seeing trip in a helicopter when the helicopter rotors fail and they crash. Heather is the sole survivor of the crash, but her sister’s last words are confusing. “Follow the drugs…” Heather doesn’t have any idea what that might mean, but she believes the crash wasn’t an accident.
Jeremy Latham is the sheriff assigned to the case, and he reluctantly agrees to let Heather help with the case, but it takes some convincing on Heather’s part. He’s worried about her safety, as the day they met, someone else made an attempt at her life in the hospital.
As Heather and Jeremy work together, they develop a trust in each other, and begin to care—but will their fledging love die when the killer targets Heather?
I enjoyed getting to know Heather and Jeremy, and couldn’t help but falling in love with Jeremy. He’s a true hero. The descriptions were very realistic, my hand ached for hours after reading about Heather ripping out her IV in the first chapter of the book! The suspense starts in the prologue (so make sure you read that) and doesn’t let up until the end of the book.
CODE OF JUSTICE is the latest book by award-winning author Liz Johnson. I’ve read all three of her books, and they are trade-marked by unique plots, interesting characters, and gripping suspense.
Discussion questions are included. $5.50. 218 pages.
Special Agent Heather Sloan’s sister is killed in a helicopter crash that leaves Heather injured but alive. Kit manages to tell Heather to “follow the drugs” before she dies, which raises an alert in Heather’s mind. When investigation proves the copter was sabotaged, she’s determined to see justice for her sister’s death.
Heather sets out to track down Kit’s killer, along with Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Latham. But despite their best efforts, the two of them continue to come up against dead ends. And someone wants Heather as dead as her sister, so Jeremy finds himself in the position of protecting the feisty but incapacitated FBI agent while guarding his own heart and a guilty secret from his past.
With just enough clues to leave them clueless, emotions run high, and Heather and Jeremy find themselves at counterpoints—even as they deal with an undeniable attraction to each other. Heather decides on a dangerous course of action to draw out the murderer. Meanwhile, Jeremy discovers the killers identity, and must take desperate action to save Heather from a killer who’s closer than she realizes.
Code of Justice is a riveting read. The message of God’s ultimate control over every situation is woven seamlessly into the fabric of the story, and never feels preachy or overdone. The author knows how to create a three-dimensional character, and does so with amazing skill in this romantic suspense. The hero and heroine make no claims to perfection, but possess massive amounts of heart and humanity. A gripping story, well told.
I'm looking forward to reading this one....it looks interesting! Thanks, Goodreads!
3/08/11 - I finished this book last night. It was interesting and I enjoyed the relationships between Heather (one of my favorite names - I gave it to my daughter!) and Jeremy and between Jeremy and his friend, Tony. I usually read mysteries, but I like to be surprised by the perpetrator near the end of the story. Unfortunately, I figured out the puzzle well in advance of finishing this book. I still enjoyed reading it, though. I liked that Jeremy and Tony were so open about their Christian beliefs and offered prayer for one another as simply as saying hello to someone. That rang very true. And, having lost two of my brothers, I understood Heather's feelings about losing someone close to her. I would recommend reading this book, mainly if you're looking for a thoughtful, but fairly light story. Thanks, Liz!
I received this book through Goodreads First Reads this week.
I LOVED this book. This is the third book about a team of FBI special agents from author Liz Johnson.
In this story Special Agent Heather Sloan's sister Kit is killed in a helicopter crash that only Heather survives. With Kit's last words a mystery is thrust in to Heather's lap. Several attempts are made on her life as she and Sheriff's Deputy Jeremy Latham investigate what caused her sister's murder and who's out to silence Heather as well.
This a great mystery. I has a suspicion pretty early on as to who the culprit was but it still was a satisfying read with Heather and Jeremy having to come to terms with tragedies in their lives and trust that God is always in control even when tragedies occur.
I highly recommend all three books in this set: The Kidnapping of Kenzie Thorn, Vanishing Act and Code of Justice.
I am happy to participate in the Blog Tour for Code of Justice by Liz Johnson. The story takes place over a period of approximately 2-3 week timeframe. A helicopter crash takes the life of Heather Sloan's sister Kit and the pilot. At first it seems to be an accident, but after an incident in the hospital where Heather is recuperating from the crash, does it become something other than an accident. Heather is an FBI agent and her sister was a Deputy DA and when Heather meets Jeremy who is a Sheriff's Deputy it becomes apparent that someone wants to keep Heather from investigating this helicopter crash. As Heather and Jeremy try to find out what really happened the story takes a surprising turn in more ways than one. I read this book in virtually one sitting and enjoyed it very much. This is the second book (Vanishing Acts) of Liz Johnson's that I have reviewed and I love her stories.
I received a copy for review from Goodreads First Reads.
This book is Liz Johnson's third about a group of FBI agents in Portland, Oregan. In this one we meet Special Agent Heather Sloan as she investigates her sister's death. Heather and Kit were both in a tour helicopter that crashes, leaving Heather as the only survivor. She determines to involve herself in the investigation to find the cause of the crash and solve the mystery of Kit's cryptic final words, "Follow the drugs", but first she must win over Sheriff's Deputy Jeremy Latham and convince him that they should work together.
Altogether this is a great quick read. I've read all of Ms. Johnson's books and plan to read her future works as well.
Revenge vs justice, sometimes it's hard not to confuse the two. I could see Heather and Jeremy's points of view on the subject perfectly throughout the story.
I totally enjoyed the way the suspense in this book never let up and the romance between Heather and Jeremy kept building, too. I kept reading and hoping they'd get a break in the case before they end up like the knights in Monty Python and the Holy Grail vs the killer bunny. They just kept getting injured and bruised and battered, my shoulders starting aching from gripping the book too tight, I think.
Looking forward to the next LI RomSusp by Liz Johnson. This one was great!
I received this book free from goodreads yesterday Mar. 5, 2011.
I enjoyed the suspense, subtle romance and foreshadowing. The story was one to cause anyone who's suffered the loss of someone dear to think about their reaction.
I did find several places where edits were needed. Several places words were either transposed or deleted, but it was not enough to keep me from enjoying the story.
The discussion questions at the end are thought provoking.
I will answer them at a later date. In conclusion I will say my husband, (a non-reader) said he wants to read it. I'm not holding my breath, but if he picks it up to read; I will add that as a plus.
"Follow the Drugs," were the last words Kit Sloan said to her sister after a helicopter crash. Heather Sloan an FBI agent is the only survivor of the crash. She is determine to find who was responsible for killing her sister. With the help of Sheriff Jeremy Latham who is assigned to the case. They both go on a wild ride in tracking down the killer.
This story was riveting. It had you wanting to know what was going to happen next to Heather. A great story that you can't put down.
After Heather's sister was killed and she was injured in a helicopter crash, she needs help to investigate what happens. She convinced Sheriff Deputy Jeremy Latham to help her. She can hardly walk and cannot drive. She just may get them both killed before they learn who wanted the sisters dead and why.
I'm not a Harlequin-type reader, but this book was more suspense than love story, and it was very good. I enjoyed the characters and the story flowed very well.
Keep me in suspense, I love it! The best books grab their readers on the first page and pull them all the way through to the very last word. Code of Justice kept me guessing, and that kept me reading. This is Liz Johnson’s third book and she just keeps getting better.
While I enjoy Jeremy and Heather as a couple, the fact that two law enforcement officers break rules is a bit troubling. Jeremy taking care of Heather is sweet, but the rate they fall in love occurs too fast.
FBI Agent Heather Slone is the only survivor of the helicopter crash. Her sister, Kit an up and coming young DA died in her arms telling her to follow the drugs. Sheriff's Deputy Jeremy Latham is assigned the case. Together they try and solve the case. Exciting read.
Good story! I'm one who tries to figure out the who the bad guy is before the end and in this one I was totally surprised! Well written and kept you guessing the whole way through.
Okay book , fast read. 2/3 of the way in " Oh no they didn't go there!" But they did and I knew who did it. Kind of ruined the story for me. There was no big " Who did it " ending for me. Love story part of the book was the same old thing. Don't like each other, then do, then don't. Try no to fall in love with each other etc.... I just keep thinking" Kiss already". Go ahead and read it. It was an okay story. I'm just not into love stories.
While I enjoy Jeremy and Heather as a couple, the fact that they are both law enforcement officers who agree to break the rules is a bit troubling. Also, Jeremy taking care of Heather is sweet, but the rate it happens is too fast.
