Utterly horrifying. "Urban fiction" aka "Hood Rat Tales". The typeset is huge, the sentences extremely short and full of little more than slang cursing and references to "name brand" luxury items -- as though tailored for a barely literate type of reader.

All That Glitters is Not Gold

If ever wondered what it is like to date a big baller, Nichelle Walker takes you there. Emerald and her sister Missy ,were orphaned at a young age and raised by their grandmother, and she became tired of living by her grandmother's strict rules, so when she met Dollar seventeen year-old Emerald was swept away by the things he could give her. Dollar was one of Chicago's biggest ballers and Emerald thought that she hit the big time when she became his woman. Emerald forsook her family , quit high school and devoted her young life to Dollar. Dollar swept her up in a web of deceit and he used money and sex to keep Emerald under control. Emerald thought that she was on top of the world. Who else owns three clothing stores and nightclubs at her age and takes exotic trips? As time went on Dollar began using Emerald to make his dope drops, and she felt that she owed him because he loved her so much. Emerald knew that he was not faithful to her but this did not stop her. Emerald becomes comfortable living the life of luxury so despite warnings from her friend, Peaches, that Dollar has a history of setting young girls up to take his raps she does not listen. Emerald thought everyone was jealous of her because of all of the material things she owns.

This was a fast moving story that was well written and enjoyable and the writer's words flowed very easily. At times I wanted to jump right into the pages and shake some sense into Emerald. I recommend this to anyone who likes to walk on the wild side of life without experiencing it. There were quite a few vivid sex scenes so this is for an adult crowd . This book is an eye-opener for those of us who live tame lives. The author states that there will be a sequel to this book and I would like to see the loose ends tied up.

My teacher assigned me to write a letter to my favorite author. Here is the letter below.

Dear Nichelle Walker,

My name is Teleyah, I go to Bronx Heaven high school and I picked up your books from a book stand on the Buckner Blv in the Bronx. I love Doing His Time and Money Over Men and at one point of time in my life I felt like everything Emerald was going through, I was too, with the exception of my child's father. He wasn't a drug dealer or didn't have me locked up, but it seemed as if I was fighting females very often.

I have a couple of questions and it would be great if you could answer them. Question one: why is Lies and Secrets non-purchasable ?
I was very upset to not be able to buy that book. I wanted to know everything and not having the book will not do for me. It's burning a whole in my head just thinking about what I might being missing out on. I know many of your fans might have asked, but can i get a copy of the book?

Question two: Did Emerald and Sissy talk again? I can't believe her sister would betray her over a man, a man that wasn't even her in the first. If that was my sister, me and her would have to fight. How could my sister leave me in jail for a man? Random question: Did Sissy ever talk to her father?
Does Emerald talk to white John again? Does Emerald ever get pregnant?

All in all, I think your books are great and I think you should continue to write and sell. I recommend all your books to my friends and I can't wait until your book Lies and Secrets come out.

In DOING HIS TIME, written by debut author Nichelle Walker, we're in Chicago , where we meet Emerald, a frantic sixteen year old celebrating her birthday. While parking lot pimping with her girls, she meets and greets Dollar, a bona fide hustler, who she is looking forward to getting to know.

As Dollar and Emerald get more acquainted, Emerald loses her modesty and begins stepping on and over people as she rises to the top. Be careful who you step on as you may have to come down that same unpaved road.

Emerald learns valuable lessons about love and loyalty while DOING HIS TIME. I for one cannot wait for part two. Nichelle is definitely an author on the rise and this is a book that all book junkies will enjoy.

This book was really good. I couldn't put it down! A friend of mine gave it to me early in the morning on our way to school,by the end of the day I had fininshed it. This book showed me how it is in the hood for little girls. I couldn't wate to buy the second one! I couldn't see how someone didn't like this book.

Doing his time is fast pace read. I enjoyed following Emerald life (things woman do for love) There was some moments in the book when I wanted to toss it across the room. This story is very much true to life because I know so many woman that have lived this life style and is doing his time. There is a lesson to be learned from this book....remember all things that glitter isn't gold

This was a very good book. It taught me to think about who I mess with in a relationship and if they get caught for doing something wrong don't give your life up for them you have to live for yourself.

My co-worker referred this book to me and I was surprised I enjoyed it so much. Although the explicit language I could have did without, the storyline was very intriguing. looking forward to reading the sequel.
