In this style guide from the 1950s, American fashion designer Anne Fogarty reveals the secrets of 'wife-dressing' - the art of looking chic on all occasions, be it at a cocktail party, on the tennis pitch or in the boudoir.
I absolutely adored this book! Not only is it incredibly cute on the outside, but it is on the inside as well. I loved the tips and it doesn't talk you down like you expect it to do. If you love 1950s fashion, I HIGHLY recommend this one! :)
A bit dated insofar as fashion has become much less occasion-specific and thus more watered-down, this still contains some really interesting and useful messages. Anne was certainly a pro in her time and place. I very much enjoyed reading this and have some new food for thought when dressing myself now.
Personally, I have been interested in the 1950s for a very long time and genuinely expected to like this book unconditionally as a traditional housewife myself. However, there were several points I completely disagreed with along the way, one of which was the constant disposal of things and their replacement with newer, more “relevant” ones. Overall, it was a pleasant read, and some of the advice was genuinely meaningful.
