The prince would choose to save his realm. But the beast would follow his heart…
To me.
After I saved his life and kingdom, Kalyll let me go, choosing duty over the passion that burned between us.
Though his death was written in the stars, I found a dark, impossible way to pull him back, to anchor his soul to the world of the living. Still, that wasn’t enough to win his heart.
Now, the force that lives within him gives way to his darker nature, and for a second time, I’m kidnapped and made prisoner—this time in a high tower in the Seelie capital of Elyndell.
With good and evil fighting within him, both his kingdom and heart stand at risk. He can’t have it all, and his attempts to do so may be the end of all he and I hold dear. ---- This is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast featuring a troubled prince, a strong heroine, and an amazing supporting cast. This is an enemies-to-lovers series suitable for 18+ that grows darker with every book. It's the second of a trilogy and ends on a cliffhanger. For fans of Sarah J. Maas and Jennifer L. Armentrout.

*ps: I made this review before I found out that these books were basically rip off, so if my review for the 1st book wasn't a deterrent enough here's the review for this one* dnf @ 21% I powered through the 1st book at great cost, but this was the last drop for me. The mc was bland and since up until where I read she was mostly by herself, it didn't make me want to keep reading.
Loved this! I’ll admit, I was a little worried going in—second books in a series can be hit or miss thanks to the dreaded "book two curse." But I was pleasantly surprised with this one. Based on the title, I thought it might be some Rapunzel-style "locked away" storyline, but it turned out to be way more interesting than that. Plus, it had a bit more spice than book one, which I definitely enjoyed.
That said, book one is still my favorite—it had more adventure and mystery—but this was still a fantastic sequel. I’ve already started book three, and I have high hopes for how the series wraps up!
I stumbled across a TikTok from Ingrid Seymour looking for ARC readers. The description sounded great and I hadn’t read the first yet. I applied for the ARC and was approved and found the first on kindle unlimited. I was so excited and couldn’t wait to start reading.
These books are not for me. I feel terrible for receiving the book in exchange for a review and not liking it but the story is just lacking in world building, character development and smut. The “smut” scenes are super cringe and give me an abuse vibe. When someone is screaming no at you, you do not tell them “that they want this” and continue to touch them. Fantasy book or not.
It just seems that the story could’ve been written in one book, but it’s stretched out over three short books. Yes, this is the second but I know there is a third planned and the original goal of the first book still hasn’t been accomplished.
At least I was more engaged in this one. It definitely had more detail but the smutty scenes were just not it for me. I found myself wincing more then anything.
It may be for you but I do not like aggressive enemy to lovers with an abuse vibe. Retelling of beauty and the beast or not.
Ingrid Seymour has brought the tale of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde to life in a way I would have never thought of. A Cage So Gilded is the second book in the Healer of the Kingdoms series.
Dani is kind, smart, respectful, sweet, and caring, but as evidenced by the way she let Kalyll's friends treat her in the first book, she's also a bit of a doormat. Well Dani has got a little edge in this book and I like dark Dani, she's confident, assertive, snarky, and lethal. Now, if only the two could combine then Dani could be a force to be reckoned with.
Her match is in Kalyll, the prince is respectful, kind, peaceful, caring, and a bit of a bookworm. However, after the incident on Mount Ruin, Kalyll has developed an alter ego named Wölfe. Wölfe is basically Kalyll's id, all his wants desires, and baser instincts but Wölfe also seems to be his own person. He wants what he wants and doesn't care about anyone or anything else. Truth be told there was a lot I liked about Wölfe and some I didn't, but I think Kalyll could learn a little from him. There is just something about a bad boy and Wölfe is that in spades, he most definitely had his appeal while other times I kinda wanted to hit him. The best thing about Wölfe is that he owns his feelings which causes Kalyll to admit his and Dani to question hers.
Although I'm not sure any of that matters, there are so many obstacles standing in the way. Never mind that Dani is a skew and Kalyll is a fae prince with responsibilities to his people. The politics are a nightmare. The courts are impossible and royals are worse, it's an impossible situation. This just feels like heartache, I don't know how they are gonna come out unscathed.
Like I said there was a Jekyll and Hyde situation with Wölfe being Hyde, of course, but I also got hints of Rapunzel in the beginning, with Dani being trapped in a tower with no one for company. At least Kalyll's friends are acting a little better but not by much. Everything was just a hot mess. In the background of fancy meals, elegant parties, beautiful libraries, and a glorious castle is the lies, manipulation secrets, and deceit. Kalyll's paternity and the truth behind Silver's betrayal were uncovered. Every moment was exciting. Especially in the last few chapters, betrayal and unexpected allies are all in a day at fae court.
A Cage So Gilded was a great read, I really enjoyed the retelling aspects. There were schemes, a fae sorceress, high steam, curses, kidnapping plots, a fake identity, blackmail, and the weirdest love triangle I have ever seen. It was very dramatic and I loved it. This book revealed quite a few surprises, I can't wait to see how Ingrid is gonna wrap up Dani's story in the third and final book, A Court So Dark.
Wölfe.. really!? 🤣 The pronounciation of "ö" makes it sound so odd. If you want to call him a wolf, name him Wolf.
That aside, again, I love Dani's fighting spirit. That even when it seemed futile, she kept fighting to get out.
I wish the mate-bond was explained a bit more, like was that the reason she and Kalyll couldn't keep their hands to theirselves in book one? Can Dani feel it as well since she is human?
I'm so happy Silver is back! His random uses of human expressions is just gold!

Oh my ... This book ... I have no words. Ingrid Seymour you have done it again. Just like book 1 this one has swept me off my feet and left me wanting more.
A cage so gilded starts right where A prince so cruel left off. Dani is kidnapped AGAIN. We follow her on her mission to free herself and in doing so save her beloved prince.
Dani has to find a way to cure Kallyl, deal with her conflicting emotions and accept the changes within herself after everything she's been through so far.
This book has angst, battle, intrigue, betrayal and so much more. And just you wait until you find out what the word Mylenthi means!
Ingrid Seymour, you absolute queen of cliffhangers. This time I saw it comming and I wasn't even mad like before! I would say that is progress on my part. You jetter believe I'm already anxiously waiting for the next book in the series to put me out of my misery.
I was hoping for some character growth. Dani actually seemed to regress instead. She completely forgot about her family, patients, and career. In the first book she was so worried about the kids she was caring for and there isn’t even one mention of them in this book. It’s been a month, maybe 2 by the end. Nobody that cares that deeply about sick children suddenly stops caring. Her love for the abusive “Wolfe” is concerning as well.
Wolfe was ridiculous and that name is stupid. I only know a little German but that name in English is literally Wolves. As in plural, more than one wolf. I had a feeling that he was supposed to be integrated into Kalyll and not banished, but he was so unlikeable. He had no redeeming qualities. Was Kalyll in need of some backbone? I suppose so, but why such an abusive SOB?
Dani is in a tower, in a single room for a good amount of the book. It’s boring and her thoughts are repetitive. There was no world building or character development for anyone except Larina. The magic system makes zero sense. It actually becomes contradictory. I read more Fantasy than any other genre and getting magic systems right takes a lot of thought. It’s always painfully obvious when a writer doesn’t try to make it, make sense. It was different (in a good way) that Dani was a healer and not an amazing warrior or sorceress. That was thrown away too. She had to become a total “girl boss”. It’s a tired character type.
The side characters are around for a bit, but they stay pretty one dimensional. I’ll probably read the last one because it’s free through kindle unlimited.

I completely devoured this series. I cannot wait for the final installment to come out!
Spoilers!!!!
In this book we are introduced to Wolfe. Who is the darker manifestation of the Princes desires and wants. And even though the prince let her go at the end of the first book, Wolfe has other ideas. Unfortunately, he goes about a few things in a pretty poor manner. Like, locking her up in a tower, forcibly changing her appearance to be more fae than human so he can be with her in public, and yet he always puts her first unlike the Prince who puts duty above all else. Dani struggles with the two halves of the man she loves. She's scared that Wolfe is bad because he is reckless and only thinks about his own desires but he always chooses her whereas the prince has always been the good, putting others first and himself second. However, as time goes on Dani begins to see an overlap and recognizes those two sides within herself. Especially since the dark magic she used to save her princes life tainted her as well. Revealing itself as a new power allowing her to zap the life force from others. Politically, the princes younger brother partners up with the kingdoms enemy and allows an assassin into the castle who kills their father and wanted to the kill the prince as well. When the younger brother is confronted his second in command attacks the newly crowned King, but Dani jumps in the path and tries to protect him with her magic and failing. In a last ditch effort she is encased in ice, with a sliver of her life force frozen in stasis. This was all for told by the seer who told the Prince and Dani that she would be his queen but that he would mourn her greatly.
Hopefully we find out more about this life extension the secret agent witch talked about and we get some revenge on this younger brother! Also... Their mother tried to marry him to his half sister, wtf mom. Barf.

I absolutely LOVED Book 1 and was eagerly anticipating this sequel. However, I felt ultimately let down by this next installment. The pacing and character building that made Book 1 so great was totally lost here. The development of magic for certain characters doesn't make sense as there's no real fleshed out rules around it. Dani's modern POV was a great balance for the Fae characters in Book 1. Here, it felt too modern / superficial / on-the-nose; sometimes even cringeworthy in my opinion. Book 2 does end on a pretty interesting cliffhanger at least. Not sure I will continue the series.
Fun YA fantasy read! 🌶🌶 when I saw this cover, I immediately thought of the Gild series by Raven Kennedy.
This is my first read from Ingrid Seymour and I wasn't disappointed. This ends on a cliff hanger which doesn't bother me. I'm excited to see what happens next.
This book grabbed my attention with the MMC having an alternate ego.
I gave this four ⭐️ an honest review because I felt this book could have been longer. I felt it was rushed in areas and could have more detail based on being fantasy. I need more detail when it comes to fantasy stories!
I liked this one more than the first one. There was so much more that came to light with this one and her figuring out her healing powers more, YES! But another cliffhanger which had me wanting SO MUCH MORE! I can’t wait till the third one comes out so I can find out what happens to Dani and how they will make sure she stays alive. May be just me, but I liked Wolfe more than Kalylle. But that could be the dark romance lover in me 🤪

Phew, this was intense. I received an arc for this one, and it picks up immediately where the first book left off. Not only is Dani trying to figure out Kal and his curse but also changes in her. It’s got intrigue, magic, curses spice fighting and found family. Must read and I am excited for book 3! It ends on a cliffhanger so I’ll be biting my nails until that one comes!
Love it so much! And that ending! Wow. Not faire! 😂
I had an ARC of this book, and I loved I’d from cover to cover. This books picks up right at the end of the first one and you are sent right into action.
Looking forward to reading the third book and I hope the release won’t be too far apart from the release of this one 🥹🥹
We have so much going on expecially at the last half of the story. Dani and Kalyn (Wolfie) is so dymatic that you want to know what is going to happen next. When Dani is locked up in the tower what will she do to get out? Who does she really love? Will his friend believe her if she can get out? What will in the end? Cliffhanger!! Now to wait for the next book.
A beauty and the beast retelling based in the Fae realm
Just WOW… Let me catch my emotions for a second…
This is the second book to a prince so cruel and ended on a cliffhanger that has me going crazy over here, I need answers Ingrid!!
Ingrid is definitely becoming a favorite author of mine her writing skills are phenomenal and she is definitely the queen of cliffhangers. This story is wrapped in so many emotions. I found my self in Danielas shoes unable to choose who i loved more Wolfe or Kalyll. I will definitely be recommending this book as well to friends its a favorite so far!
Was entirely NOT a fan of the lack of character development, mythology and most of all the complete obliteration of the concept of consent. It’s like the authors is ignoring all backstory until she just downloads something as a plot device that needs a whole hell of a lot more description. The characters are severely underdeveloped as well. And the near rapes described are abhorrent. There’s enemies to lovers and then there’s this and the author seems to think there’s grey area between those two things when there is not.
The only redeeming factor is the actual storyline of the book.
I got an arc reader copy for this book. I was so excited to find out what happened after the cliffhanger on the first book. The story was amazing as was the first book I kept finding out more and more and it was nice to be more engaged in this book but I just didn’t like reading the smut scenes, they felt forced and too much. I can’t wait for the next book to find out what happens.
Another beautiful part of this trilogy. I loved the Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde vibe in the story and the way that developed trough the story. This story had some surprising twists and turns and kept me interested throughout the book. The spice was alright. The cliffhanger though..I can not wait to read the next book!
The first book could have ended with an HEA, 'cause this book was infuriating. How was this book so bad?
And don't even get me started on the FMC, she was so freaking helpless. Ugh, I absolutely hated it. But hey, thank goodness there were some side characters that saved the day. Thank God for them.
I love the world the author builds in this book. Though we got a glimpse of it in a prince so cruel, the second book expands it further with breathtaking descriptions of the Seelie Court. I also fully enjoyed the way the author worked through Kalyll and Dani's darker sides. Both of their journeys drove the point home that it's better to embrace your demons than shun them.
as much as I loved the first book, this one was...mediocre at best.
the characters were flat, I just could not get invested in the plot and the MMCs name for 60% of the time was Wölfe. German plural for wolf. It's just not something you call someone you want to be seen as cool, dangerous, ... I nearly DNFd on page 4 because of it.
I loved book one, but it pales in comparison to book 2. So much mystery and love and action. From start to finish I could not tell exactly what might happen next. And the ending was quite the shock! (If you know you know).
The first book really pulled me in and I was very excited to read this one. The idea of our main character being a healer and the multiple personalities of the Prince was very intriguing. I felt like the first book was slow to start, but it really picked up about halfway in. With the cliffhanger left at the end of book 1, I was really hoping for a little more action and twists at the start of book 2, but it did pick up about midway in and by the end again, I was excited to start the next book.
What I really liked: I really liked the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde trope for Kalyll and Wolfe. Wolfe was cringy in the way the Dr. Jekyll was and Kalyll was the kind cinnamon roll personality. I also liked that Dani comes into her power a little bit more, but I really didn't feel that I got a full understanding of her power and where it came from. She is human, but I still don't fully understand the world barriers and that leads me into ...
What I didn't like: I even wrote in my review of book 1 that I was hoping we would get more information about the magic systems and worlds in book 2. I also hoped we would see more character development, but sadly I feel like while some characters like Silver and Larina developed a little more, many of the side characters felt stale and forgotten. Dani's personality got repetitive and honestly a little annoying in book 2. While she grew into her power more, she regressed in likability. The magic system seems, to me, not as well thought out as it should be and almost like the author hadn't fully planned it out and just added as she thought of it. I was still left with more questions and some confusion about the overall world. Naesala, the sorceress: I still don't really understand her character and when she and Dani speak about her future with Kalyll, Dani just changes her mind so easily. Kalyll was so much more sexy and likable in book 1 and just felt bland in book 2, and Wolfe really wasn't much better. I also felt that the overall plot was far too similar to the first book with the only real difference being the setting and how they went about certain areas. For a short book, it took me a week to read it.
Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate this book, but I didn't love it. We all have one book in the series that isn't our favorite and this may be mine in this series. I don't regret reading it at all, but I can't say that I would jump to read it again. The ending though did interest me and I am wanting to read the next book just so I know what happens. Will they get their HEA, who knows. My honest rating would be a 2.75-3 ⭐️ with 1.5 🌶.
