The mysterious Benedict society is an amazing series about four kids. They have all passed a test, and by doing so they became spies. My favorite character in the series is Constance. She is only 3 years old in the first book. Constance has many special abilities that she contributes to the team. My favorite book in the series is The Mysterious Benedict Society. This is the first book in the series. I really enjoyed trying to solve all of the crazy riddles, even though I couldn't figure them out. My favorite part is when they find out that Constance is only three. Trenton Lee Stewart has also written a book filled with riddles and puzzles to solve, just like the Mysterious Benedict Society does. I would highly recommend this series for young readers. :)

How did I not hear more about these fantastic books before now? They are better than the Spiderwick Chronicles and the Series of Unfortunate Events both of which got a lot more press and feature films too. The characters are plucky and endearing, the storylines clip along at a fast pace with more than enough twists and turns to keep you reading. I love that these books celebrate kids who are smart--in a variety of ways-- inventive, brave and kindhearted. Think Harry Potter mixed with Roald Dahl mixed with Lemony Snicket mixed with a brainteaser book. Definitely some new favorites that I can't wait to share with my son.
This delightful juvenile fiction series is one my eldest daughter has been encouraging me to read for at least a year. I guess I should have listened to her sooner, because I loved the books. They take the story of a team of four gifted children and a few adult mentors, through adventures that result in saving the world from the plots of the evil Mr. Curtain. The children are each gifted in different ways, and watching them pool their talent and figuring things out makes for lots of fun. The books are quirky and light-hearted, and I highly recommend them for both adults and children alike!
This is one of my favorite series of all time. With quirky characters, an unusual plot, and dry wit laced through it all, Stewart crafts and uncommonly well-written story. With prose that sparkles and engages the reader, and with a plot riddled with riddles, Stewart constructs a face-paced and lovely series with each book better than the last. Truly, these books are a gift, and the enchantment I feel when rereading them never diminishes. These books will always have a special place in my heart.
I bought the collection as a whole for my nook. I'm in the second book, and enjoyed the first. Not sure where this will all go, but any collection of books that remember that children aren't dumb is a big plus in my mind.
This was one of my favorite childhood series! The story is masterfully told and combines elements of mystery, sci-fi, puzzles, and more. Kate is my favorite character. I would always imagine all the possibilities of how she could use her bucket. So creative!
Fantastic allconsuming weekend sort of book-but worth the weekend and much more! With all these puzzle mystery filled pages your sure to be hooked too!
One of my favorite series when I was younger and still today! The characters are unique and the writing is whimsical. Trenton Lee Stewart even wrote a sequel.
Genuinely—genuinely—this is the BEST children’s book series I have EVER read! I read this when I was like, 13 and loved it, and recently, now 23, I read it again to see if it still holds up. Sure enough, it does.
In fact, if anything, it was even more enjoyable to read as an adult. And I think that speaks to why this series is so immensely good—it treats its audience (despite being targeted for young readers) as smart, capable, and engaged. Just like its characters, it respects the reader (regardless of age) and doesn’t spoon feed them (as many new youth novels may tend to do).
It’s also wildly imaginative, exhilarating, has fantastic, lovable characters, and dives into some fairly advanced ideas of power, education, and diversity.
I don't really remember anything about this series anymore, except that I read it around age 14, which is already at the high end of the age range it's meant for, and I fell in love with the intrepid characters and their funny adventures. This came recommended to me by my middle-school best friend, who I loved dearly and would trust with anything.
Actually, I recently watched the (pretty meh) movie adaptation, and it brought back so many memories: strong Kate, sarcastic Constance, and the two boys; the entrance exam and its exhilarating brain-teaser trick questions; narcoleptic Mr. Benedict and his twin; Number Two the pencil-shaped lady, and what else I have no idea.
Awesome series you have here! These books have you engaged in wonderful relationships and the puzzles throughout are the best part! In these books, you will find multiple riddles with answers only the smartest will know. These books should be on everyone´s to-read list. A spellbinding book to everyone!
Wow! The first two books really had me hooked on their series. But sadly, once I got to the third book, it became quite boring to me. Either way, I’d still recommend the first two books to others. If you like the books after that, that’s great! It was definitely worth my time and I regret nothing. It is a good book for ages 10+ in my opinion. It has no bad language or references and a 5th grader could easily glide through this book if they are an average reader.
love these books. i carried them in my backpack, and it got to the point where they were slightly tattered from all the random places they went with me. kinda gives me a series of unfortunate events vibes, but combined with mystery. they made me feel good about my random skills in a time where it was just so obvious that i wasn’t like anyone else and made me feel joy in being different.
These books were amazing! They were so intense, so good, so impressive, and the series just kept on being awesome. These books were so in depth, and it made so much sence when you read them all, and i didnt want to put it down!
