Found a book review of this from 1989 while doing some research for work. Although the US my not be in a Hyperinflation situation, as it states, there are some good business principals that can be applied during inflationary times.

Two words - utterly fascinating. (Maybe I should get that MBA in economics). As stated this was written in 1989, but take out a few sentences referring to faxes and mainframe computers and this could be hot off the press.

The majority of the book focuses on the hyper inflation (inflation over 100% that goes up every week) of South American countries. Great analysis and suggestions regarding the business areas of finance, marketing, cost analysis, and strategies to take. So about 95% of the book gives real world examples from the South America. So your roughly could see how this could happen, but this is US of A, right?

The last 5% of the book talks about all the government actions did regarding inflation in the 1970’s. US Government implementing cost freezes on all products – there’s a good plan to combat inflation in a market economy!

This book (really a case study) is cheap on Amazon and you can read it in about 90 minutes. I passed this along to our VP of Sourcing and Procurement. If you have any involvement with cost controls, purchasing, or establishing prices, get this book.
