Spanking Cupid

Rate this book
Sabena Darin had the equivalent of a school girl crush on Gavin Brooks, a guy she worked along side of for the last two years. He was volunteered to be the office Cupid and pass out the goodies.

As she walked by his office, Sabena saw him bent over retrieving something that fell to the floor. Her imagination went crazy and she pictured herself slapping his butt with gusto. Gavin caught her eying him and warned her that spanking Cupid had consequences.

Despite his warning and with his permission, Sabena gave into her urge. It wasn’t until later in the day did find out warnings were put in place for a reason.

Dana Littlejohn was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. After spending most of her youth dreaming up stories to pass around the lunch room for her friends to read, she decided that writing was something she wanted to do. As an adult, she took on a new role as mother, wife, and laborer, and her writing took a back seat. In 2003 and with the encouragement of her husband, she picked up her pen again and has no intention on putting it down. She has called Indianapolis, Indiana, her home for over 10 years, still working a 9-5, and is still a wife and mother, but now an author. Her imagination is the wildest ride ever! Jump on board and see for yourself!

For a while now I’ve admired Dana Littlejohn’s dialogue. It’s snappy, real, and shows that she must have spent quite some time listening to people talking and taking it all in. Her character responses are usually so spot on that it makes me feel like I’m eavesdropping. This is mainly prevalent between two female friend characters. The camaraderie has shone through in every Dana book I’ve read. And I confess, I’ve read a few.

What I’ve enjoyed most from the Dana Littlejohn tales I’ve sampled—the shorter works—is that she crams a whole lot of story in a few words, making me feel like I’ve read something much longer but without the time spent doing so. I’m always satisfied by the end too. (Not like that, you dirty minded readers! Oh, all right, like that too… God, the things you’re forced to admit being a reviewer…)

Anyway, back to the review…

Sabena just loves Gavin, but as is usual with us women, we never think the object of our desire could possibly want us in the same way. She’s been wanting to try spanking for a while now, and when her boss gives her a new project creating a commercial, her dream of being spanked comes sooner than she thought it would. The commercial is about lube for men and women, and it does something special when applied… (Genius idea, by the way!)

But, I want to talk a little about David. He made Sabena feel her desire for spanking was wrong, and I really disliked him for it. Okay, it didn’t feel right to him, but to say it was wrong was wrong. It was right for her, something she wanted to try, and the fact that he brushed it off and made it quite clear how he felt about it, I wanted her to ditch him as soon as possible and find someone who understood her needs. He is an arsehole, plain and simple, and in the scene where he gets angry and spouts all kinds of rubbish about spanking being “hitting” in the mean sense, he strikes a pose like The Thinker, and that image was so great I saw it in my head and wanted to go over and punch his lights out. Not very womanly of me, I know, but for God’s sake, he is so irritating! Well done to Ms. Littlejohn for getting such a reaction out of me.

So, when Sabena sees Gavin bent over, and she gets the burning desire to slap his arse, and he knows what she’s thinking too, I cheered. Yes, I cheered like a total loony, garnering some weird looks from a woman seated on the bus seat next to me. I also chuckled. If she knew what I was reading… Ahem.

BEST BITS: And Sabina certainly had the inclination.

“Sat what?” she mumbled, trying to keep the mashed chocolate from falling out of her mouth. (I loved this image. Very funny.)

Think? Who could think? (LOL)

VERDICT: For great dialogue, for seeing the heroine get what she craves—and with a gorgeous man too—indulge in Spanking Cupid. Read it on the bus and cheer. Read it on the bus and have the secret knowledge that you’re reading something rude and no one knows it. It’s great fun.

This was a cute short story. It reminded me a lot of how my husband and I got together. I really enjoyed it.
