I think his book can come very handy in the classroom. It explains to children what a family is or could be like and how each family is different from others while accepting these differences in society. This book entertains the reader by having a lot of pictures and examples. The information given in the book is simple and easy to read so it makes it appropriate for the younger age group. This book would be a perfect introduction to a unit on families because it has a little of everything and provides questions to answer throughout the reading. It would be very helpful when starting a class discussion because it would get children to discuss their own families and relate to each other by comparing and contrasting their experiences. Mary Hoffman has lots of experience in writing children’s picture books and children’s novels. She lives in England with her husband and has three grown daughters of her own. The illustrator, Ros Asquith, has been a cartoonist for over 20 years and has always loved working on children’s books. She has experience in teaching and has two sons. Both the author and illustrator seem to be very well connected with children which makes them suitable for writing and illustrating children’s books.
