How to Draw and Paint Science Fiction Art: A Complete Course in Building Your Own Futurescapes and Characters, from Scientific Marvels to Dark, Dystopian Visions
First of all I have to say that when it comes to art I have as much talent as a spider that has fallen in to an inkwell. That said I do love looking at it - I think its amazing how someone can take an idea or theme or a bunch of words and turn it in to something so real and emotive.
To that end I fell in love with the books of the Paper Tiger but more of that elsewhere. However just because I am totally talentless does not mean it does not fascinate me.
Now in many how to draw/paint/(insert word here) the examples are simplistic and the finished examples basic to say the least - not here. Here you have some excellent examples which have been deconstructed and then explained it's fascinating stuff I just wish I could do it.
Now yes its based on science fiction (well the title does sort of give it away) and for me its high Science fiction don't get me wrong my journey in to reading was Hard Science Fiction but it does mean you have a little more leeway to play - and boy does this book take the opportunity. So yes it was a fun read and one day I may even dabble a bit but for now I shall just look at the pretty pictures.
I absolutely love the artwork in this book. It has just the right balance of text to illustration. I like the introductory material with giving context to the sci-fi art world. I would love to own this book and take the time to go through the many step-by-step examples to really develop my craft as a digital artist. This is great long-term reference material that provides lots of inspiration.
