This has loads of fascinating facts on a whole host of insects. It answers lots of questions children may have, such as what is and what isn't an insect, and uses scientific terminology that is explained in a child-friendly way. It includes a section on habitats, helpful and not-so-helpful insects, such as pollinators and parasites and is packed with colour photos.

It would be a good book for children to practise their skills in finding information on a page with a magazine-type layout and reading captions to pictures. Apart from the obvious links to Science, this would be a good choice for guided reading using an information text and also as a nice class book to go home, as often less enthusiastic readers will be swayed by a good non-fiction book. (Especially of it has close-up photos of mandibles.) Recommended for Yrs 3&4.
