Times are tough for the demon, Temptation. Once he enjoyed his work enticing humans to sin so their souls could be marked for collection. Now no one needs inducement from him. Lying, stealing, and cheating, has become the mortal's way.
This tiny gold-mining town in northern California and the bar he has just entered appear as corrupt as all the other places he has visited. However, he senses purity amongst the squalor, and he knows he has found the one soul he must tempt. Sunset. She is as decent as he is corrupt. As good as he is evil. And more hopeful about life than any human he has encountered. He must have her.
But he soon learns he has overstepped his bounds and must now find a way to free the souls of the wrongfully damned.
His long-time enemy, the Collector, has other plans. Here to chastise him, he takes great pleasure in announcing Temptation's punishment. He must pursue his quest, in human form, with human emotions. Emotions that lead him straight to Sunset.

As the book discription goes "Times are tough for the demon, Temptation", TEMPTATION,#1 the first in a new series by acclaimed author Tina deCoux is nothing short of stunning. One's typical view of demons are utterly turned upside down as we meet "Temptation" - a demon with a new found conscience!!! Ms. deCoux' plot and characters are so original and appealing that, once finished, the reader yearns for TEMPTATION #2- a must read. RICK FRIEDMAN FOUNDER/MODERATOR THE JAMES MASON COMMUNITY BOOK CLUB
After reading the plot description for "Temptation," I was anxious to read the book. Unfortunately, the read was extremely disappointing because the storyline was predictable, boring, and without "soul." Temptation made me realize that with so many authors self publishing it will be more challenging to discern which books are worth purchasing/reading. We can no longer just rely on book retailers story descriptions. That is why Goodreads is so important.
Temptation is a demon whose job is to tempt humans into relinquishing their soul. After wandering the earth in human form for too long he has become both bored and complacent. Upon entering a small mining town, he meets Sunset, a beautiful woman of pure heart. Sounds good right? Unfortunately, while the storyline had promise, the execution was flat. There were so many wonderful places this story could have gone including great character studies and why people sometimes choose to make bad choices. However, this barely 200 page novella did not even put a dent into the possibilities.
Additionally, I found the brutalization and rape of the main character unnecessary and abhorrent in the end. We were to believe that Sunset was raped and then within minutes turned around and kissed Temptation. Pleassssssssssse! I will not be continuing on with this series or with any other books by the author. However, in all fairness to the other readers as well as the author, I recommend that you read it for yourself and make your own decision.
This book was the first one i have ever won as part of the goodreads giveaways, it was a roller coaster ride. It was a breath of fresh air to read something else aside from Vamps a weres. It was thrilling and the suspense did not allow me to put the book down. overall it was a very good and entertaining book.
This story is based around a demon, Temptation, and his job is to do exactly what his name states. He roams earth, trying to tempt humans into sin. If a human gives in to the sin, their soul is marked for the Collector, another demon. But Temptation has grown jaded about his job, and forces sin on humans instead of letting them choose. An angel of war visits him, and informs him that he has to right his wrongs or the ultimate war will wage, bring an end to everything, including Temptation. Why would Temptation need to exist if there are no humans left to tempt?
I’ll have to admit, I was going to pass on this book up. The cover was intriguing, and as I read through the reviews I was accosted with a spoil sport review. You know, someone didn’t like the book so they left a spoiler review without a warning.
I’m glad that I decided to read it even after the spoiler. The book was a little choppy for me, and the dialog seemed forced in some areas, but over all I thought it was a decent story. It was something different, and that is what I’m always looking for. The book is written from first person POV with chapters alternating between Sunset, a bar owner, and Temptation (Sam), a demon. I think I would have like it better if it would have been completely written from Temptation’s POV; he had a child-like quality to his personality as he struggled with new emotions.
This book was the first of a series called The Soul Collection Series, I will be looking for the next one.
The demon Temptation has unknowingly broken the rules and must set things right or risk a war. The Devil wants the war to break out and the Collector is to see to it but when Temptation refuses to let this happen the Collector punishes him by turning him human. No longer the demon Temptation but Sam the human he now has to deal with the chaos of human emotions. Then he meets the kind hearted Sunset who takes him in.
This was a quick, entertaining read. It takes place in a small town with your typical nice girl, the town jerk and the mysterious new stranger. The main characters were good and chapters switch between Temptation/Sam and Sunset. The Collector was entertaining, I enjoyed his evilness.
Some parts of the story can be slightly confusing for some depending on your beliefs on the meaning of pure souls, temptations, sins, etc., since the boundaries aren’t very clear. So there are some things that raise questions, but if you take it as it is it’s a pretty good read. I did expect it to be a little darker but I enjoyed it and the whole thing with the demons Temptation and the Collector were entertaining and intriguing. I also love the cover.
Big Thank You to Goodreads and author Tina deCoux for the chance to read Temptation.
When I first read description detailing this book, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it... and then I did and things quickly went downhill from there. Unfortunately, while the storyline had so much potential, the execution fell hopelessly flat for me.
The sentence structure was poor and choppy, making for a difficult read. The story was rushed in areas... areas I felt were critical spots in the plot that needed a slower pace or greater, lengthier descriptions if you will. Temptation's character could have been so much more. Darker, more complex and mysterious, more sensual and alluring. I needed a bit more background on his existence before he met Sunset and more of a catching, intense build up when it came to the two of them falling in love after just 3 days of knowing each other. Everything just happened too fast for me I'm afraid...
Yay! I won a copy through the Goodreads First Reads program! I can't wait! :D
More like 3 and a half stars... Interesting story for sure but I have to admit I was expecting a bit more of a "horror" element to the book. But instead, you feel sympathy for Temptation when he's in his human form (Sam). I can understand his frustration with humans and not really having much to do in the way of tempting them to sin; that just seems to be the way of the world now. Sunny was overly trusting, but in this case it seems to have worked for her in the end. I look forward to the next book in the series to see where the story goes.
These are the things you need to know about this book: First the only interesting in this book is the storyline. Temptation becames human, falls for a mortal girl and sves the girl and the world.Second is o poorly written that after the first chapter you will want to hit your head on the wall. I only read it becuse I had nothing to read while trying to tan. Avoid it for the love of God.....
I love thrillers and this book didn't disappoint ......I was hooked from the very beginning! Once I reached the halfway point, I couldn't put it down. The struggle between good and evil mixed with the paranormal makes for a must-read.
Really liked this one! I really liked Tina's other books, but I think this one is really the genre of stories I really go for. I think this was a great story! I am looking forward to her next installment!
