"I'm a writer, kind of impulsive but shy. Loyal to my friends, tend to take things personally more than I should. Very stubborn, but will listen to reason when I give it a chance. Don't talk much but difficult to shut up when I start. Easily distracted by shiny objects and bright colors. There isn't really much of a point to this page. Not the biggest fan of Myspace in general, except when I want to see hideously ugly websites for the unintended comedy value - it's got a lot of those. At this point it'd just be more effort to take it down than to leave it out there. It's not doing any harm, and sometimes a friend says hi. That can be a good thing. I do check my messages and whatnot but don't expect a lot of updates. You have permission to be heartbroken" - Rich Wulf

This was a fantastic end to a fantastic trilogy. There was a good followthrough of the tension that the author built with the end of the previous novel and all the characters got a moment to shine. I will admit that I was expecting a much bleaker ending than what was delivered and for me that's a good thing.

After reading this one, I can confidently say the following: if you wanted to read just one Eberron series, Heirs of Ash is the one. It absolutely "safely crashed" the landing. Tie-in books are ultimately popcorn literature, but this one was definitely more than the average for the medium. There was delightful pacing with intelligent dialogue, subtle character growth, and rationality from the good guys. I can't stress the last point enough, it is *rare*. I absolutely loved my time with this series and for me, it is the best presentation of arguably the best DnD world.

All great stories end in Sharn. This was a pretty great story.

For some reason, I accidentally skipped book 2 in this series and jumped straight from 1 to 3. However, for all that an entire novel's worth of story takes place between the two books, I didn't find that there was anything absolutely essential that I missed. Granted, I was still confused by all the characters, which are not really all that fleshed out, and the story jumps around and just doesn't make a whole lot of sense, so part of that might be from my missing out, but I think most of it was just due to the fact that this book isn't all that great.

It pretty much suffers from the standard "media tie-in" novel disease. That is to say, a pretty standard "hero party has to save the world from a sinister plot" with an action scene every couple of chapters or so. Having read so many of these kinds of books over the decades, it was just a little hard to get excited about, and I found myself bored with it for the most part. I really like the world of Eberron and would love to see some sophisticated novels that focus a lot on worldbuilding and deep character development. I really don't need another action book. This one just felt like it went on too long, rehashing the same conflict over and over and giving a pretty standard climax and conclusion to a typical "trilogy" media tie-in.

I'm not one to really sink into a review of a book. I like what I like and I keep it to myself.
However, here is a series I tired out and feel a little let down.

The first two books were pretty good, interesting characters and Seren was more then a passable character. But here we are in the 3rd book and she was all but a spot on the wall. She was hardly there and involved - it's like she became a throwaway character with no more development.

The crew took a back seat in this one and that also felt like a let down. The last 4 or 5 chapters felt phoned in and were very predictable and that wasn't the best way to handle it. The climax came too early and then the last couple of chapters felt tacked on to tidy up the remaining questions.....and that felt like the worst quarterback sneak ever.

Seren was a huge let down for me - I was thrilled to finally read about a female character and thought she was the perfect character....and then after the first book it was a downward spiral developmentally and worse in book 3.

I'd say read the series if you have nothing better to do, some of the characters were interesting and I wish there was some way to "find out where they are now" but beyond that I'd keep looking.

And I hate saying that about any series.

Good finish up to an interesting series. I never quite got into the world of Eberron or how it works, at least not how I do with generic D&D or Forgotten Realms. But it is an interesting and charming world. I definitely need to reread the trilogy as a whole as I finished this book about 2 years after reading the first two.

I really enjoyed this one, as I did the three before it. If you like fantasy novels, this is a good set.
