The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and the Tree of Life represent the basic conflict between the powers of darkness and the kingdom of God. This book is a study of the fundamental differences between these two trees, and how they still affect our lives today. As we proceed toward the consummation of this age, the struggle that began in the Garden of Eden will reach its zenith. With each passing day, it becomes more crucial for us to understand the battle that is raging for the heart and soul of every human being. If you are resolved to stand for the truth and to confront the darkness of our time, you will be helped by this book.
Rick Joyner is the founder and executive director of MorningStar Ministries and Heritage International Ministries and is the Senior Pastor of MorningStar Fellowship Church. He is the author of more than forty books, including The Final Quest, A Prophetic History, and Church History. He is also the president of The Oak Initiative, an interdenominational movement that is mobilizing thousands of Christians to be engaged in the great issues of our times, being the salt and light that they are called to be. Rick and his wife, Julie, have five children: Anna, Aaryn, Amber, Ben, and Sam.
If you only read one book of this type--Christian interpretation/exhortation--read this one. Written twenty-five years ago, it has a fresh message for today.
Joyner's allegory of the two trees in the Garden of Eden is an apt frame for explaining much of the Old Testament in terms of the New in an engaging, meaningful way.
On second reading: Found a few more nuggets, but also a few lumps of coal. Amazing what you miss--or misunderstand--the first time through--fiction or non-fiction. Still five stars, if somewhat tarnished.
This was a pretty good book. Presented in a long sermon format, it expounds upon the revelation that God has given the author about the tree of knowledge of good and evil and the tree of life. I was inspired, and educated, and enlightened. I can't think of any specific thing I brought away from reading this book besides the fact that my life should be consumed and flow out of Jesus, and not out of doctrine itself.
Amazing! Recommended for someone who's been in the faith for a long time, and still doesn't feel like they "get it". Not great for someone who's just started going to church (because it's quite heavy and assumes some prior knowledge of core Christian beliefs), and definitely not for someone just academically interested in Christianity (Josh Mcdowell's More Than A Carpenter, which I read earlier this year, would be great for that).
The book is an excellent adaptation of various Bible stories with numerous references to the same. The parts and pieces did come across as sermons but were well thought thru and fairly easy to comprehend. I think the most important part of what came across was that we should be seeking the Lord and not his gifts. We should humble ourselves in that process and avoid getting into the things of the flesh.
Amazing insight into the reality that anything "of" the tree of Good & Evil is less that God's design for us, found ONLY in the Tree of Life. If we live by the tree of knowledge of Good & Evil, believing that "good" is "God" then we are deceived.
The deceiving truth that Satan uses everything the Lord makes for good, into a counterfeit. “Satan comes as an “angel of light” or messenger of truth.” A fundamentalist view of sin and the root of evil. The fruitfulness of choosing the right path in every action. Showing what power can be obtained in every day to day life, actions taken have consequences. “For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall be also in the likeness of His resurrection” (Romans 6:5)
Exposing us in our midst. That we may fall short into these deceitful yet evil actions not realizing it because we are grasping to the wrong tree, as the reflects that Rick enjoys to make thus the title “Two Trees' '. Reflections of the flesh for current or past things giving us truth or deliverance. Exposing the higher power of people in the world today such as the evil driven men promising safer streets or the end to economic problems, unemployment, pornography, more military strength.
Those who want to find a basic understanding of sin and or evil, the living parts of life that we fall into, and how to face our battles with authority. Wanting biblical nerdy references to back up Rick’s own opinions on seeing sin, ones who can take the time to marinate on a single line. Take time from the book to reflect on their lives. Feel convicted or to repent of the things you may not realize you're doing that isn't pleasing to the lord. Taking away deviceful things of your life that will grow your relationship with the lord.
I am struggling to get through this book so decided to write my review while it was fresh in my mind. This book has no introduction and jumps right in to the author sharing his beliefs and interpretations as facts. It felt like reading many dos and donts. I did not feel connected to the author at all. He uses language like "We must" or "We cannot" alot but does not encourage the reads very much. It seems to be written to church leadship more than the average person wanting relationship with God. Not impressed. I had been told this book was good but i dont think so personally. It felt religious..
Fascinating and insightful. There are a few passages where you get a sense of Rick's own opinions and thoughts based on his own experiences and how he processes. One may disagree with those or have differing revelations about it, but as a whole this book goes deeper and gives broader understandings, as it should, of scriptures and passages. I took my time with it and still return to my notes from it, as I find it to have much to chew and digest. A very good book for those that want a broader scope. I found it very enlightening and am encouraged by it
Rick Joyner is one of my favorite authors. This book has opened my heart and mind even the more to principles of God. Those things you know independently- this book brings them together for a better understanding and provoke you to walk / think in a different manner. My rating of this book is based on not only the content as written but the eye-opening experience that it has provoked within.
This revelatory teaching on the Tree of Life and the Tree of Knowledge is a Word for TODAY. Joyner teaches "from Genesis to Revelation" and shows how many of the challenges we face are due to favoring knowledge over Life. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
Note: It is written for mature Christians (Joyner presumes a level of understanding that newer Christians might not have).
Great book for beginner's and seasoned believers bringing revelation about the two trees in the garden. One tree that humans continue to eat and die from and another's that gives eternal life.
Insight Qualifying and understanding education intervention "by Rick Joyner" respectively Cain and Abel comings. A completely different tone and a different pland, than what we are used to from his fantastic series about the final quest etc.
omg...what a wonderful book! there were two trees...the tree of knowledge of good and evil and the tree of life...do you want eternal life? Adam and Eve selected the other one and it became their downfall...and this decision has been with us throughout our human history...but something...ehhhh...someone came down from heaven to show us the way...
This is by far one of my favorite books. It challenges our western mindset that pursues knowledge above all else. It is Rick's first book, but I still consider it to be his best. He goes to the root of everything in this book.
I need to read this book again. I got a lot of Revelation and golden nuggets out of it. Thank you Pastor Rick. May you keep on writing revelatory books so that even a baby can understand and receive what you have written.
Gave me a new understanding of the two trees and how the eating of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil really caused the great divorce between God and man.
deep as a water, this a thought provoking, incredible book, it reaches to the heavens with strong roots and truths that when applied are a propellant for spiritual growth, for becoming wine . . .
I liked it. I loved the comparisons of the Tree of Life and the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. And how it shows up in our lives alot. Not just in the book of Genesis.
